Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good procedures in place to maintain children's safety. She understands child protection issues and knows how to proceed if a child is at risk of harm. The childminder holds a current first-aid certificate and keeps a fully stocked first-aid box in the event of an accident to a child. The childminder has addressed the action and recommendation set at the last inspection. This has led to improvements in the quality of learning opportunities she offers to children. The childminder welcomes the support she receives from other professionals and uses training opportunities well to develop her knowledge and keep up to date with changes in childcare practices. The childminder encourages parents to share their views about her service to help inform self-evaluation and drive improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly observes and assesses children during play and at routine times. She uses her observation to provide activities that builds on children's interests and development. The childminder offers children a wide variety of activities to support their communication and language development. For example, she allows for lots of repetition of words and phrases, encourages role play and provides visual displays that stimulate comments from children. The childminder ensures that children are given opportunities to hear their home language in the setting. The childminder introduces numbers and mathematical vocabulary, such as about shapes, in practical ways. They begin to develop good early literacy skills. Children's imaginative development is encouraged. Children are learning to take responsibility for looking after their environment as, for example, they help to tidy up without any prompting.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder greets children warmly when they arrive. She builds close bonds with children, which helps them to feel secure. Young children develop a healthy dependence on the childminder, who is caring and receptive to their individual needs. The childminder gathers relevant information regarding children's diet to ensure children's dietary needs are met. The childminder's daily care routines help ensure that young children remain healthy. Children learn to develop relationships. They also learn important social skills, such as sharing and taking turns. The childminder uses appropriate behaviour management strategies to encourage children's good behaviour.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress. They begin to develop their own preferences and make choices for themselves. Young children learn to control their own body and gain important skills in readiness for the next stage in their development.
