This provision is good

 The childminder has a good knowledge of children's interests and provides a range of activities which engage them for long periods of time. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning, including starting school.  The childminder has good relationships with children. She provides a warm and welcoming environment where they feel settled and behave well.  The childminder has improved her practice since her last inspection. For example, she uses observations and assessments of children's learning to clearly identify their next steps and the good progress they make.  Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder shares effective information with them regarding their children's development and encourages their suggestions and feedback to help her improve further.  The childminder ensures that her home is safe and she implements clear procedures to protect and safeguard children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always use opportunities to build on children's mathematical development during play.  The childminder does not always make the most of routine times of the day to build further on children's learning and independence.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop opportunities for children to build on their mathematical knowledge and understanding during play  build on children's learning opportunities and independence skills further during routine times of the day.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and her interactions with children in the indoor environment.  The inspector sampled the childminder's written documentation, such as some written policies and training certificates.  The inspector viewed children's records, including assessments of their learning, and tracked their progress.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home to which children have access.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and the process she would follow if she had any concerns about children's welfare. She ensures that her safeguarding knowledge is up to date; for example, she completes online training. The childminder works closely with local childminders, which contributes to her self-evaluation and enables her to share good practice. She understands the importance of continuously improving her provision. Since her last inspection, the childminder has developed resources in the outdoor area to meet the developmental stage needs of all children. For example, a ball pool for younger children to explore and ride-on toys for those who are more mobile.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how to support all areas of learning through play and children's interests. She successfully encourages children's communication and language skills. For example, when children chose to explore coloured building blocks, the childminder talked to them effectively about this and asked challenging questions to develop their knowledge. Children have opportunities to explore technology resources and quickly learn how things work. For example, they knew which button to press when asked to select a certain object on a touch pad.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children confidently explore and make decisions about what they are going to do next. The childminder encourages children to take responsibility for themselves. For example, she asks them to help tidy away. Children have a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, when using the trampoline, they know to zip up the net. Children have a broad range of opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they enjoy using ride-on toys and taking part in throwing and catching games with the childminder. Children laugh with the childminder and seek her out for support when needed. The childminder constantly praises children, which helps to support their emotional well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic learners who are willing to have a go and persevere. They develop good literacy and language skills. For example, children look at books with the childminder and repeat words printed in the books. Children are well prepared for future learning and their move to school.
