The childminder plans stimulating activities in a well-resourced environment, based around children's interests and needs. Children make good progress in their learning and develop the skills they need for future learning. The childminder continually reflects on her practice and identifies ways to effectively secure ongoing improvements. She takes parents' and children's views into account to help improve the quality of her provision. The childminder helps children to develop an awareness of, and respect for, the similarities and differences between themselves and other people well. She provides resources and experiences that effectively help them to learn about people in the wider world. Overall, the childminder works in close partnerships with parents to settle children in when they start. Children build secure emotional bonds with the childminder and are confident and content in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not developed fully successful strategies to support parents with their children's learning at home. Although the childminder teaches children about the world around them, she has not yet fully extended opportunities for children to investigate and learn more about the natural world, to take this aspect of their learning to a higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises and garden used for childminding. The inspector observed teaching and the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records and documents to confirm the suitability of all household members. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation record. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of inspection and given as written feedback to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder updates her safeguarding procedures regularly and she is clear about what to do should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She carries out regular risk assessments and ensures resources and equipment are safe and suitable for children. The childminder meets regularly with other childminders to share good practice and undertakes professional development to improve her knowledge and skills. Since the last inspection, she has improved her observations and assessments to promote positive outcomes for children. The childminder keeps parents regularly informed of their children's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a wide range of activities and learning experiences that children enjoy. She effectively observes and assesses children's learning to help her to regularly monitor the progress each child makes and identify the next steps in their learning. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and how to build on their skills. For example, she helps children develop strong communication skills by encouraging conversation and introducing new words. The childminder encourages children to lead their own play and develop their independence as they choose their toys. She is aware of children's individual interests and plans activities that motivate them, such as building models or playing imaginatively with a play kitchen. The childminder develops children's early mathematical skills well. For example, she encourages children to counts objects and helps them to understand concepts such as 'full' and 'empty'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop trusting relationships with the childminder which help to promote their emotional well-being. They clearly understand the routines, such as washing their hands before eating, and independently take care of their personal needs. The childminder is a positive role model who has a calm and sensitive approach to managing behaviour. She teaches children about the importance of healthy lifestyles and ensures children have plenty of outdoor play and exercise. She teaches children the importance of physical exercise through purposeful discussions during play. For example, after chasing each other outside, the childminder helps children to observe the effects on their bodies by feeling their heart beating faster.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They show determination and positive attitudes towards learning and are acquiring the skills they need in readiness for their eventual move on to school. For example, they follow the rules for good behaviour. Children are kind, take turns and respect others.
