This provision is good

 Staff gather useful information from parents about children's development when they first join the nursery. Staff work closely in partnership with parents and keep them well informed about their children's progress.  Children generally behave very well. Staff work closely with other professionals and use effective strategies to help them manage any challenging behaviour that may occur.  Staff use their knowledge well to provide effective activities that promote children's learning. They have good training opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills.  Children learn about diversity in society and have a range of imaginative resources and activities. Staff invite parents into the nursery to participate in cultural events and festivities to help enrich children's experiences.  Managers and staff work effectively together to provide a challenging and motivating learning environment that helps them promote good outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Arrangements for assessing children's learning, although good overall, are not as consistently completed by some staff, such as those working in the baby room, to help more effectively identify any gaps in children's learning and plan for their progress.  Younger children have few opportunities to explore the natural environment, particularly those who show a keen interest in playing and learning outside.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 continue to develop on the already good processes for assessment of children's learning to maintain greater consistency across all areas of the nursery  improve opportunities for younger children to learn about and explore the natural environment, particularly for those who prefer to learn outdoors.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed staff interaction with children inside the nursery and in the garden.  The inspector held discussions with the manager and staff and spoke to children throughout the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection and from written feedback.  The inspector looked at children's progress records, staff suitability, risk assessments and other relevant documentation, including policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Management implements robust recruitment procedures to help ensure staff are suitable to care for children. Safeguarding is effective. Staff regularly update their safeguarding knowledge, such as through training, and are fully aware of the procedures if concerned for children's welfare. Staff carry out regular risk assessments to help ensure children can play in safety. The management team monitors staff practice and provides regular coaching to help staff develop their skills. Staff supervise children closely, observe them frequently and plan for their next steps in learning well. Gaps in children's learning are generally identified early and staff work with parents to seek appropriate support, such as from external agencies. The management team seeks the views of staff, parents and children when making plans for developing the setting. It effectively uses its self- evaluation process to reflect on the provision and make continuous improvements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Babies and children make good progress in their learning and development. Staff provide exciting activities that encourage children to learn. For example, children are enthusiastic as they search for animals in shredded paper. They identify the animals and learn where they come from and how they sound. Children learn new vocabulary, such as hearing different animals' names. Staff extend children's learning by making links between the activity and children's experiences at home. For example, children talk about the animals they remember seeing in an animated film and from reading a book. Staff talk to children in their home language and this helps them with their language development further.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well into the nursery. They develop strong attachments to their key persons and build good relationships with other staff. Children learn to be independent from a young age. For example, babies learn to feed themselves and older children serve their own food. Staff provide children with a healthy diet and teach them about healthy lifestyles. Children develop their imagination and physical skills. For example, they enjoy playing with a large parachute outside and pretend they are making waves on the sea. They search for earthworms on the ground and make-believe they are looking for snakes. The garden is well equipped and has lots of apparatus for children to climb and balance on. Children practise good manners and are considerate to each other.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for starting school. Children learn to share, take turns and respect other people. They learn words have a meaning and share books and read stories together. Children learn to recognise letters and sounds, and practise writing their name. They learn mathematical skills, such as counting, recognising numbers and shapes.
