This provision is good
Children have a wealth of interesting activities and resources to choose from. They are challenged, motivated to learn, make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. The childminder and assistants have very good relationships with the children, they share strong attachments. Children are settled and secure. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents comment positively on the quality of care and learning their children receive and feel that communication with the childminder is good. Parents feel involved in their children's development and are encouraged to continue activities at home. The childminder has a positive attitude towards her work. She and her assistants attend regular training and keep their knowledge current. This helps to promote good-quality care and teaching for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, adults caring for children do not recognise when to give children more time to respond to questions and develop their thought processes.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

offer more consistent support for children to think, solve problems and come up with their own ideas.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector engaged with the children during the inspection. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the children during their indoor and outdoor play activities, as well as their snack routine. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a good understanding of how to keep children safe and the procedure to follow should they have any concerns about children's welfare. There are effective systems to monitor assistants, for example, through regular meetings and appraisals. The childminder has high expectations of her setting. She makes good use of self-evaluation to identify ways to improve and actively takes into account the views of parents and children. The childminder effectively monitors children's development and identifies any gaps in their achievement. She skilfully targets teaching and supports children to progress. The childminder works in close partnerships with parents and other professionals to provide continuity of learning and care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The environment is warm, welcoming, stimulating and safe. Children actively explore the environment and engage in a broad range of activities. The childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn and plans interesting experiences that help them to make progress. For example, children enjoy a game pretending that they are on an airplane. They create their own passports and act out the different roles, taking it in turns to be the pilot. Children go on regular outings and are introduced to new experiences to extend their learning. For example, they visit the fire station and a local dog centre. The childminder makes accurate assessments through good-quality observations. Parents are actively involved in their children's learning. For example, they are encouraged to complete observations at home and to give feedback on assessments.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play and explore happily and with confidence. They have secure relationships with the childminder and assistants, and are pleased to arrive at the setting. Children are well behaved. They are kind, considerate and respectful of each other. The childminder and assistants act as good role models and offer gentle reminders to encourage positive behaviour. Children are confident and the childminder actively encourages them to be independent. They follow a good hygiene routine and are able to manage their own needs effectively. Children learn how to adopt healthy lifestyles. For example, they learn how to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The childminder completes regular risk assessments and makes sure the home is safe and secure.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are polite, friendly and engage enthusiastically in fun activities, such as dancing. All children make good progress in their learning and are confident learners. They are prepared well for their next stage of learning.
