Effectiveness of the leadership and management Requires improvement Quality of teaching, learning and assessment Requires improvement Personal development, behaviour and welfare Requires improvement Outcomes for children Requires improvement
p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not record children's hours of attendance. The childminder does not display her certificate of registration. The childminder lacks understanding of what to include in the educational programme. As a result, children are not consistently provided with activities that promote all aspects of their learning and the childminder cannot accurately assess everything that children know and can do. The childminder does not share information with other settings that children attend. This means that continuity of care and learning is not fully promoted. Self-evaluation is not rigorous enough, in order to identify all weaknesses in the provision.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children enjoy the time they spend with the childminder and her family. She provides a warm and caring environment for children. This helps them to feel secure and promotes children's emotional well-being. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder shares daily information about children's care, well-being and achievements. Children have regular opportunities to build on their physical skills. The childminder ensures that they have daily opportunities for fresh air, exercise and outdoor play.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
improve the exchange of information with other settings that children attend in order to fully complement the care and learning that takes place elsewhere develop the use of self-evaluation, in order to identify and address areas of weaker practice.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaging with children in a range of learning activities. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and engaged with children during the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation, including a selection of policies and procedures and the children's records. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and of the suitability of all persons in the household aged over 16 years. The inspector talked to the childminder about her plans for improvement. The inspector jointly observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents provided in written references on the day of inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of the procedure to follow should she have concerns about children's welfare. Since her last inspection she has implemented a policy in line with the relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board and this includes information on the safe use of mobile phones and cameras. She has also ensured that she has public liability issuance now in place. However, although some improvements have been made, the childminder still requires improvements in her practice to ensure that all legal requirements are met. This is because the childminder does not display her certificate of registration and does not record the children's hours of attendance. However, these breaches of requirements currently have minimal impact on the children attending due to the low numbers cared for. Training, such as first aid, provides the childminder with appropriate knowledge and skills
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
to help to keep children safe. The childminder has not recognised all other aspects of the provision that require improvement because her self-evaluation is weak.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder holds an appropriate early years qualification. Despite this however, she lacks understanding of what to include in the educational programme. She cannot demonstrate that she is consistently providing children with opportunities to make good progress in all aspects of their learning. In addition, her assessments of children's skills do not take account of all of their achievements. However, the childminder provides a stimulating environment where children are able to make choices in their play. The childminder joins in with them and she engages them in conversations. She uses these opportunities appropriately to promote children's speaking and listening skills. Children learn to solve practical problems, such as fitting a train track together. The childminder encourages children to count during activities, as part of their mathematical development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder is kind, caring and she responds well to the children's individual care needs. She ensures that children are introduced to her and her family gradually. This builds upon the children's trust and helps to build strong bonds between the children, the childminder and her family. Parents are happy with the care their children receive. They feel that the childminder has a loving and caring attitude. Children benefit from a healthy diet and nutritious snacks provided by the childminder. Partnership working with other settings attended by the children has not been established. This means that the childminder is unable to work with staff in these other settings to help build continuity in children's care and learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Weaknesses in the childminder's knowledge mean that children are not yet supported well enough to make consistently good progress in their learning. However, children are gradually acquiring skills they need to be ready for school. The childminder encourages the children to become independent and to manage their own care needs. For example, they put their own shoes on before going outside.
