p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder observes what children can do and uses her knowledge of children's interests to plan a good range of activities that support children's development. Children make good progress.  Children behave well. For example, the childminder recognises their achievements and encourages them to play well with others. Children confidently join in the activities, and learn to share and use manners.  The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents and other settings, to meet each child's care and learning needs through a supportive approach.  The childminder places a high priority on keeping children safe. For example, she implements robust risk assessments and checks. Children develop a good awareness of how to keep safe in different situations.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not take all opportunities to extend children's understanding of the differences between people in society, to fully promote their awareness of diversity.  The childminder does not use the views of parents and children to further build on her good systems for self-evaluation and professional development.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase opportunities for children to explore and learn further about differences and diversity in the wider world  include the views of parents and children to further develop the systems for self- evaluation and professional development, to raise the quality of provision to a higher level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the impact of teaching on children's learning in the indoor areas.  The inspector looked at a sample of records and discussed planning, children's assessments and their welfare with the childminder.  The inspector checked the suitability of the childminder, including her qualifications.  The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow to help her protect children from harm. She is vigilant in the indoor and outdoor environments, to promote children's safety and well-being at all times. The childminder has a clear understanding of the requirements of her role and improves her skills to benefit the children. Since the last inspection, she has reflected on her practice and successfully used information gained from assessments to plan for children's next steps in learning. She now monitors and supports children's learning well and works closely with parents in this respect, to help children progress as well as possible.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder demonstrates a good knowledge of how children learn. She frequently interacts with the children and teaches them new words to promote their early language and communication skills well. For example, she describes their actions as they make patterns and circular marks with pens. Children learn to solve problems, for example, as they experiment to see which toys will fit into their bag. They engage in role play and wave and say, 'Bye,' as they move confidently between the areas. The childminder introduces children to numbers and counting; for instance, as she frequently counts the objects that they play with. She uses the children's interests well to engage them in further play and exploration. Younger children enjoy pressing the different parts of interactive toys, to discover how things work.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children show that they feel secure, happy and relaxed with the childminder and enjoy the warm relationships that support their emotional well-being. They express themselves well; for example, as they gesture and point to the toys as they learn to make decisions. Children enjoy healthy, nutritious snack choices. They practise new skills, such as feeding themselves with a fork. They learn good hygiene practices and the childminder role models these well. For example, children wash their hands with good support and increasing independence. Children enjoy active play and exercise to support their health and well-being. They develop their coordination well as they enjoy using the garden equipment, visiting the park and walking to and from school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Younger children show increasing concentration and confidence as they develop well socially and emotionally. They are inquisitive and make strong progress from their starting points. They enjoy the daily routine and range of activities which help them to develop the skills they need for future learning and for moving to school.
