This provision is good
The childminder helps children make good progress in their learning and development through her good-quality teaching and planning. She uses the information gathered from her observations and assessments to measure children's progress accurately. She establishes clear starting points for their learning and plans their next steps effectively. The childminder has a strong awareness of safeguarding matters and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Children have access to a welcoming and vibrant learning environment both indoors and outside where they are inspired to play, learn and develop. They are happy and settled with a dedicated and caring childminder who responds to their every need. The childminder has a calm, sensitive and consistent approach to managing behaviour. She encourages children to be thoughtful and kind to others, treating them with respect. The childminder supports children's increasing physical skills effectively. For example,

she ensures children have plenty of exercise and encourages outdoor play as part of their routine.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder over directs children's creative play without allowing them sufficient time to use their own thoughts and ideas.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

give children more time to express their own ideas and thoughts during creative activities so that they have even more opportunities to direct their own learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed daily routines and children's activities indoors and in the garden. She talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed planned activities and jointly discussed the intentions and learning outcomes of these with the childminder. The inspector viewed a sample of the childminder's documentation, including policies, training certificates and children's files. The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading their comments on questionnaires given to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to safeguard children. For example, she carries out daily risk assessments, including for any outings. She enables children to take supervised and reasonable risks as part of their development; for example, she reminds them to ride their bikes safely. The childminder reviews the educational programmes that she provides to ensure all children progress well towards the early learning goals. Partnerships with parents are very good. Communications are consistent with each family. This helps to reassure parents and promote children's confidence as they see their parents working positively with the childminder. Shared information is kept securely and confidentiality is maintained. The childminder welcomes the views of her assistants, parents and children. The childminder monitors her assistants' practice to ensure consistency and quality.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a thorough awareness of how young children learn. She offers them activities that engage their interest and motivate them to develop their skills. Children are eager to explore and demonstrate a good level of engagement, considering their ages. The childminder provides a running commentary and praises young children when they use new words, such as 'pinch'. Young children show good listening, attention and problem-solving skills as they respond to the questions the childminder asks. Children are confident and have good imaginative skills. For example, they pretend to look after the farm animals and transport a cargo of hay in pick-up trucks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle extremely well in the exceptionally warm, welcoming and child-friendly environment. The childminder offers effective settling-in procedures and gains detailed information from parents about their children's individual needs and backgrounds which helps her to provide exceptional continuity of care. Children develop high levels of confidence and good social skills. For example, from a very young age children learn to share, take turns, use very good manners and respect others. Children make the most of open spaces in the outdoor area to develop their physical skills. For example, they learn to balance and jump on the trampoline and giggle with delight when they fall over.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident to explore their surroundings and are easily able to access toys and equipment to support their play. Children communicate well and play cooperatively with each other. They listen well and consider different views and ideas. Children develop good skills in early mathematics and literacy and show an eager disposition towards learning. They are well prepared for their next stages in learning and for school.
