The childminder gives high priority to her ongoing professional development. For example, she has undertaken a wide range of training since her previous inspection. This has helped her to maintain good standards in the setting. The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. She is a good role model to children. For example, she teaches them to share, take turns and learn good manners. This all helps children to behave well. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding practices and uses these to help keep children safe. It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give younger children enough time to think and compose their responses to her questions before supplying the answers herself. Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities, and the interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector viewed documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures. The inspector discussed how the childminder uses self-evaluation to develop her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has effective ways to continually improve her practice. For example, she exchanges ideas with other childminders and regularly researches online, which helps her improve outcomes for children. The childminder builds good relationships with parents. She consistently shares information regarding children's development and provides support for parents with their children's home learning, to help promote good progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in child protection. She is fully aware of the procedures to follow should a concern arise about a child's welfare. The childminder has robust policies and procedures covering all aspects of care, and she follows these consistently to help promote children's well-being effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gets to know the children's individual abilities and interests well. She uses information gathered from parents well, alongside her observations, to plan for children's next stages in learning. The childminder interacts well with children and skilfully joins in with their chosen play to help engage them further. Children develop good coordination skills. For example, young children enjoy making different shapes out of the playdough through manipulating their fingers. Babies enjoy exploring toys and finding out how things work. The childminder encourages children's early mathematical skills well. For example, she models counting and identifies shapes with the children, which extends their vocabularies too.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming learning environment. Children settle well and develop strong relationships with each other. Children gain independence. For example, younger children enjoy selecting fruits and feeding themselves. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles well. For example, she provides healthy meals, has useful discussions to reinforce children's understanding of healthy eating and children use her garden for robust physical activity.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children engage well in their learning and they make at least good progress. They use early mathematical skills during their play; for example, they compare sizes of objects and begin to recognise numbers. Children have a great love of books and they listen well to stories. Children are confident communicators. They acquire the skills needed for their next stage of learning, including starting school.
