This provision is good
The qualified childminder uses her knowledge well to plan a range of stimulating and interesting activities for children. She is skilled at following their lead and recognises when they are ready to learn. This contributes to the good progress children make. The childminder encourages children to be independent and take an active part in their own self-care routine. Children develop high levels of self-confidence and good self-help skills. The childminder and her assistant provide a warm, caring and friendly environment. There are effective procedures in place to help children settle in. Children have developed secure bonds with them both and demonstrate they feel safe in their care. The childminder meticulously monitors the progress children are making. This helps her to quickly identify any areas where children may need extra support and for parents to access this from other professionals, such as health visitors.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder is dedicated and committed to providing high standards of care and learning for children. Children say they are very happy here and thoroughly enjoy their activities.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use children's areas of interest, particularly those linked to the outdoor environment. This does not fully take into account their individual learning styles and preferences. The childminder does not make the best use of every opportunity to involve all parents in their children's development. This does not consistently help parents to share detailed information about their child's achievements or extend their learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as learning profiles for children and evidence of the childminder's and her assistant's suitability to work with children. The inspector obtained verbal feedback from children, written feedback from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has strong knowledge and understanding of the early years foundation stage. She regularly attends training to ensure her skills remain up to date. For example, she has attended training to support children during bereavement which has also had a positive impact for all children's personal, social and emotional development. The childminder regularly talks to her assistant about her plans for children and they have developed a professional, effective working relationship. This provides consistency for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident to record and report concerns about children and is able to identify vulnerable families. The childminder teaches children to have an understanding of how to manage appropriate risks, such as taking care on the trampoline, to increase their awareness of safety.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Teaching is consistently good between the childminder and her assistant. They share their observations of children to plan for the next steps in their learning, which helps to promote continuity. The childminder carries out assessments of children's progress and shares them with parents, including the progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder helps children to develop the key skills they need for their eventual move to school. For example, children develop a love for books and use them effectively to find out information about their chosen activity. This helps them to develop early reading skills and become aware that written words carry meaning. The childminder provides a range of interesting resources to extend children's learning in their space theme. Children enjoy using the books to enhance their creative play as they paint space rockets. Young children enjoy the sensory aspect of this theme and the childminder

models words to them as they explore the textures and characters in the moon sand. This helps to develop their language and creative skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is enthusiastic about teaching children about different people, places and communities. Children thoroughly enjoy the annual airport trip to meet the cabin crew and pilots. They show interest in the different clothing from around the world and are excited to guess the name of different countries' flags. This helps them to build awareness of the world around them and respect other cultures. The childminder and her assistant are excellent role models for children. Children are exceptionally well behaved and show kindness towards each other. The childminder helps children to understand what contributes to a healthy lifestyle and provides opportunities for fresh air and physical exercise. Children enjoy the freshly cooked meals as they sit around the table together and know why they wash their hands before eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager to join in with different activities and show an interest in their learning. They make good progress across the seven areas of learning and have developed strong literacy and physical skills. Children are ready for the next stages in their learning, including school. They are independent and show confidence in new social situations.
