Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistants. The inspector observed the childminder, assistants and children in their indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder and read a sample of children's development records. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation form and took account of feedback from parents. The inspector checked the safety of the premises and the required documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has made significant improvement since her last inspection to meet requirements. Her childcare qualification has given her a greater understanding of the early years foundation stage, which has supported further development of the effective assessment procedures. She has a log cabin that she uses to provide additional space for children's learning. Assistants benefit from the childminder's good support and coaching to develop their skills. The childminder has effective vetting and induction procedures to check assistants' suitability. Use of thorough risk assessments and safety measures help to prevent accidents. Records and documentation are in clear order, including registers and parent consents. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure knowledge of child protection procedures to safeguard children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistants interact well with children. They skilfully respond to children, which results in enthusiastic conversations and spontaneous learning. For example, children talk with excitement about a local festival and people they know. The childminder and her assistants adapt activities well to provide good challenges. For instance, younger children enjoy exploring soil and water. Older children sow seeds and learn how plants grow. The childminder engages parents effectively in children's learning. For example, children bring photographs and items from their gardens, and the childminder helps them to consider and compare different environments.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children play well together. They understand how to share, take turns and show respect for others. Children understand the daily routines, such as singing and group time, and they cooperate well in the group activities. The childminder and her assistants develop children's independence skills effectively. For example, they teach and support children to put on their shoes and coats. The childminder and her assistants are conscientious about children's health, safety and welfare. For instance, they ensure children are safe when playing outdoors in the sun. Children wear fluorescent vests and learn about road safety when they go on outings. The childminder and her assistants help children to know what to do if they need help.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident communicators and eager to learn. They take an active part in the activities and readily share their ideas.
