This provision is good
The childminder provides a safe environment. She is thorough in her risk assessment of the premises to ensure that all risks and hazards are minimised. The childminder has made improvements to her practice since the last inspection. She has undertaken training in aspects of safeguarding and welfare to ensure she is meeting the requirements. She regularly reviews her observation and assessment and makes better links to children's next steps in learning to help children to make good progress. The childminder provides well-planned activities to promote children's learning and development. She effectively considers how she can support children's learning in a variety of areas, within one activity. The childminder effectively meets children's needs. She chooses to care for a very small number of children so that she can give them plenty of one-to-one attention. She encourages children to make their needs known and supports their routines well.

This provision is good
The childminder organises the environment well. She makes good use of the space to promote children's learning and meet their needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough opportunities to respond to questions or comments, so that they can consolidate their speaking and thinking skills. The childminder does not fully encourage parents and carers to share information about children's learning and development at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed the planning of activities with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of training.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has undertaken two training events in child protection recently. She has a secure knowledge of the indicators of abuse and how to follow up any concerns about children. The childminder provides a broad range of activities to support learning. She regularly takes children to local groups and also meets up with other childminders and their children. This also enables her to share information and keep up to date with changes. She uses this information, as well as regular reviews of children's progress, to identify how she can improve her practice. The childminder regularly provides information to parents and carers about how their children are progressing in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder constantly observes children's learning and has a good understanding of their stage of development. She uses children's interests to identify how best to support their learning. For example, children love playing with diggers. The childminder plans an activity around this and interacts effectively with the children during their play. She talks about filling containers and counts the number of scoops to support children's mathematical skills. She also encourages children's physical development. Children use tongs to move items around the tray. They build a wall and fill in the gaps with small pieces of pasta. The childminder ably explains, and provides, instructions to support children's understanding. She introduces activities that reflect what children will be expected to do when they start at nursery or school. This supports children to develop the skills they need for the next phase in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have a good relationship with the childminder. They enjoy her interaction and are keen to engage with her during play. The childminder is very attentive to children's needs. She provides a stimulating environment. The well-organised playroom provides a vast range of toys and resources and encourages children to be active learners. The childminder teaches children how to stay safe. She supports them to recognise the importance of a healthy lifestyle. For example, she encourages them to eat healthily at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in their learning. They move around the environment with ease. Children can make their needs known and recognise when they are thirsty, tired or need to go to the toilet. They clearly understand and follow instructions. Children use equipment safely and with consideration for others. They show curiosity in how things work and spend time exploring how to make them stop and start again. Children are progressing well in their physical skills. They use tongs to pick up small items and can carefully thread laces under and over in a weaving activity.
