The childminder is highly skilled in identifying how to continue to improve outcomes for children. She astutely uses the information she gathers, from carefully monitoring children's progress over time, to ensure she can meet their needs in the best possible ways. For example, she identifies professional development opportunities to enhance children's learning and her teaching skills. This results in exceptional outcomes for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder's home is a place where children can enjoy new challenges in an extremely safe, well-planned environment. Children's thoughts and ideas are highly valued and they contribute fully to the organisation of the house and garden. successfully to support children's care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder is a highly competent teacher. She skilfully extends children's learning to support their progress towards the early learning goals. For example, the children enjoy a game they have made up together, pretending to be witches and wizards. The childminder introduces ingredients that they can use to make magic potions. She encourages the children to use their senses and describe their potions to each other. Children are highly motivated and communicative, supported throughout by the playful and responsive childminder. Parents are kept fully informed about all the activities that children enjoy during the day. These robust channels of communication provide excellent opportunities to continue the learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children learn, at first hand, about healthy lifestyles. They thoroughly enjoy playing outside with an excellent range of resources. They have their own dedicated part of the garden where they plant and tend fruit and vegetables. The childminder is very vigilant in supporting children's well-being and health. For example, she teaches children how to cross the road safely. She builds extremely warm, caring relationships with children very quickly. Children develop in confidence and demonstrate exceptional levels of enthusiasm for the learning experiences they are offered. The childminder skilfully acknowledges children's efforts, supporting their self-esteem and positive view of themselves as competent learners.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are inquisitive and fully engage in the rich learning experiences that are planned. Children are exceedingly well prepared for school. The childminder works in close partnerships with teachers to ensure children are ready. Children's speech and language and social skills are particularly strong as they move on to school. Children enter school with high levels of motivation and have excellent attitudes towards their learning. Children's progress over time is exceptional. Any gaps are swiftly identified and closed because of highly effective interventions.
