This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not keep a written record of accidents. Although the childminder completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years, there are occasions when the timing of this process limits the opportunity for it to coincide with checks made by other professionals. The childminder does not exchange enough information about children's learning and development with other settings they attend, in order to fully promote continuity in children's care and learning.
p.1

involve parents more fully in deciding when the progress check for children aged between two and three years should be completed so this can more consistently coincide with checks made by other professionals exchange information about children's learning with other settings that they attend to help promote continuity in children's care and learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and reviewed the quality of teaching. The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding and the toys and resources available. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, the planning, and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures. She also discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of all adults in the household as well as evidence of the childminder's qualifications. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Some aspects of the childminder's record keeping are not sufficiently robust. For example, she does not keep the required written records of accidents. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the possible signs of abuse. She is very aware of the correct process for reporting any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder regularly meets with other childminders to share good practice and enhance her ability to improve learning outcomes for children. She checks children's learning frequently to ensure that all children make good progress from their starting points. Information is shared regularly with parents, along with ideas about how they can continue their children's learning at home. In addition, parents provide information about their children's achievements at home. This joint approach helps to ensure that children make consistently good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how young children learn and develop. She regularly checks children's progress. Her effective, ongoing monitoring ensures she can quickly identify any gaps in their development. She works closely with parents so that children's individual needs are well met. The childminder plans fun and challenging activities that reflect children's interests and individual stage of development. She promotes children's communication and thinking skills well. She initiates many purposeful conversations and encourages children to recall and discuss past events. Children demonstrate their developing imagination and literacy skills. They pretend to make appointments using the play telephone as they role play being a vet. Children demonstrate their developing mathematical skills as they proudly count objects in their favourite books. The childminder discusses concepts, such as big and small, heavy and light. The childminder genuinely

enjoys spending time with the children. She is enthusiastic as she joins in with their play. This helps them to enjoy learning and remain focused for long periods.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not ensure that she keeps a written record of accidents. However, she always promptly informs parents verbally of any accidents and so this does not have a significant negative effect on children's well-being. Children take part in activities that help them to learn about a healthy lifestyle, including growing and eating their own fruit and vegetables. The childminder helps children feel good about themselves. She offers plenty of encouragement and praises their efforts as well as their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and make good progress in their learning and development. They are inquisitive and engaged and develop positive attitudes towards their learning. They display excellent levels of independence and they enjoy leading their own play. Children are developing the key skills and attitudes they need for their future learning and in readiness for school.
