This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how young children learn. She regularly observes children and establishes accurate starting points for their learning. Children make good progress in their development. Partnership working with parents and other settings that children attend is strong. The childminder regularly exchanges information to help ensure continuity in children's care and learning. She provides children with a wide range of exciting activities that reflects their interests and needs. This helps to build on children's existing learning. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment that helps all children to thrive. She ensures resources are where children can easily reach them. They can select these according to their interests and this helps to develop their independence. Children benefit from strong relationships with the childminder. care. This helps to promote children's emotional well-being effectively.

It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not effectively promote children's thinking and reasoning skills. The childminder does not fully provide a wide range of opportunities for children to learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experiences.

Inspection activities
The inspection took place as a result of a risk assessment following information we received from this provider. The inspector observed activities and care routines, and spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed an activity with the childminder and evaluated it with her. The inspector looked at a selection of documentation, children's records and evidence of suitability checks for household members. The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder and how she involves parents and children in this process. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children from information included in the childminder's parental survey and written comments left for the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The provider notified Ofsted of an incident in her home involving a family member. The family member no longer lives in the home. This ensures children play and learn in a safe and secure environment. The childminder is enthusiastic and committed to improving her practice. She is very proactive in identifying and attending training that has a positive impact on the service that she offers. For example, she has attended a course on supporting early language development, in order to raise her awareness of how to help children with delayed speech. The childminder reviews her provision regularly to improve. Most recently, she has identified that mathematics is a weakness in her provision and she is working to address this.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly checks children's progress to ensure that gaps in their learning are identified and addressed. The childminder is fully aware of where children are in their learning and takes this into account when planning for their next steps. The childminder interacts successfully with children so that they remain engaged and motivated. Children show delight and fascination during activities. They learn how to use tools, such as scissors. The childminder carefully shows them how to hold them correctly so that they are successful when cutting. The childminder plays games with children that teach them how to take turns.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model and knows children's individual personalities well. Children learn about boundaries and expectations for safe play and behaviour. The childminder helps children build skills in social situations. They visit community groups where they learn how to mix with other children. Children follow good hygiene routines and are provided with healthy snacks and meals. The childminder strongly promotes their independence. Children are encouraged to put on their own waterproofs to play in the garden, and they confidently cut up fruit for their snack. Outside they are eager to play with the water, filling and emptying containers. Children help to plant and grow flowers and vegetables. This helps them to learn how to care for plants, and where some foods come from.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and eager to try out new experiences. Children choose from a range of resources and books and engage in learning. They become confident communicators and express their feelings well. Older children learn good literacy skills. Some children can recognise letters and sounds and are starting to form the letters in their name. This helps them to gain the key skills they need for future learning and for school.
