This provision is good
The childminder has worked hard to improve her practice since the last inspection. She has sought and acted upon, advice and support from outside agencies. She identifies areas of weaker practice, and establishes how and what she can do to address them to bring about improvement for the children she cares for. The childminder is caring, friendly and approachable. Children have formed strong bonds with her. They demonstrate that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care, confidently separating from their parents on arrival. The childminder has established effective relationships with parents. She shares information to promote consistency in children's care and learning. They discuss children's achievements and where children may need additional support. Children behave well. They respond positively to the childminder's careful and gentle support. She teaches them to play cooperatively with each other, share and take turns.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide extensive opportunities for children to count and build on their mathematical skills during activities and daily routines. On occasion, the childminder does not make the most of children's interests and ideas to extend their learning further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed the parts of the childminder's home used for the care of children. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and development plan. She looked at a sample of policies, procedures and records. The inspector observed the childminder and discussed the outcomes of an activity with her. The inspector took account of written and verbal comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection procedures. She is aware of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder knows who to contact should she need to raise a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder supervises children closely and checks the environment is safe and secure. Children's welfare is actively promoted. The childminder meets and shares ideas and practice, with other childminders. This helps to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. She gathers and values the views of parents and children. Parents comments are complimentary and show that they are very pleased with the care and learning their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of activities, both within and outside of the home. She stores resources in labelled, low-level boxes to enable younger children to reach toys of their choice. Children enjoy their learning and are eager participants. Since the last inspection, the childminder ensures she monitors the progress children make. She completes regular observations and tracking assessments. This enables her to detect areas where children may need more challenge or further support. The childminder promotes children's communication and language development well, as she joins in with their play. She uses well paced and pertinent questions to encourage children to think. She introduces new vocabulary to describe textures and what they are doing. They talk about the soft and stretchy dough, as they squeeze and knead with their hands and use tools to roll and cut.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from daily outdoor play to support their physical well-being. From a young age, children learn that handwashing is important to help maintain their good health. The childminder regularly takes children on outings. This helps them to make a link with their local environment. She teaches them about different cultures and traditions through activities and resources that reflect the wider world. Children are developing a positive attitude to others. Young children follow simple instructions from the childminder and respond positively to her praise and encouragement. The childminder has established good relationships with other settings that children attend, promoting a consistent and complementary approach to children's learning and development and care needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working within the range of development typical for their age and make good progress in their learning. Their independence is promoted well and they are encouraged to do things for themselves and make choices in their play. Children look at books with the childminder. They point at pictures and familiar characters and find the corresponding object from a story bag of supporting props. Children are acquiring the skills, knowledge and aptitudes to learning that prepare them well to start their next stage in learning and eventual move on to school.
