This provision is good

 The childminder seeks parents' views and monitors children's progress well, which makes an effective contribution to her self-evaluation process. She improves her provision for children and continues to develop her practice.  The childminder has good communication with parents and other childcare providers, which enables her to support children's learning and development effectively.  Children make good progress from their developmental starting points. They benefit from the childminder's effective interactions as she teaches them through play. Children have fun as they learn and are keen to take part.  The childminder provides a safe and stimulating environment for children. She has warm relationships with families and knows the children well. Children are content and happy as the childminder meets their needs effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always extend the opportunities to further develop children's early writing skills.  The childminder does not fully extend the range of experiences and activities for younger children, to enable them to experience a wider variety of sensory play opportunities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase the opportunities for children to develop and practise their writing skills, to extend their literacy development  increase the range of sensory play opportunities and activities, to extend children's interests further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and the children in their indoor and outdoor play activities.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke with the children.  The inspector read feedback from parents and sampled children's assessment records.  The inspector checked the safety of the premises.  The inspector viewed the required certificates and documentation.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since the previous inspection, the childminder has taken effective steps to improve the assessment procedures and partnerships. She has reorganised the toys to create more play space for children. The childminder uses childcare information that she receives to develop her provision further. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the procedures that enable her to protect children's welfare. She is conscientious about the safety and supervision of children. For example, the childminder ensures that younger children cannot access the stairs without her support. She checks that the garden and other areas are safe for children to play.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder involves children in a good range of activities to support their learning and development. They enjoy trips to the park, beach and nature areas, where children benefit from exercise and learn about the environment. Children learn about letters, sounds and numbers as they play. Younger children look at books and happily join in to mimic animal noises, which helps to develop their social and language skills. The childminder engages well with children to extend an activity. For example, following a story she encourages children to 'slither like a snail' and 'jump like a frog', to include physical development. The childminder keeps parents well informed about children's activities and progress. They work together to share ideas that support children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well and show positive attitudes. They are kind and polite towards others. For example, older children pass younger children their drinks and receive a warm 'thank you'. Older children like to help care for the younger ones, such as when they hold hands on an outing. The childminder sets clear, age-appropriate expectations that children understand. For instance, they know that to be safe they need to stay near to her when they go out. Children show good independence skills, which prepares them well for school. For example, they learn to put on their shoes and tend to their personal care with competence. Children form friendships and they show affection for the childminder and her family.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children feel very much at home and thoroughly enjoy their activities. Older children show good levels of confidence and make independent choices. For example, they decide to construct model figures, which they play with for a sustained period. Younger children enjoy the dolls and pressing buttons on sound toys, as they discover cause and effect. Children play well and develop the skills they need for future learning.
