It is not yet outstanding because:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good awareness of child protection and knows the procedures to follow should she have a concern about a child's well-being. She shares her knowledge with parents to ensure that they are fully informed of her role and responsibility to protect children in her care. The childminder undertakes regular risk assessments to ensure the environment is safe for children. The childminder works closely with parents to share their children's stages of development and next steps in learning. The childminder has good links with local nurseries and schools to ensure good continuity of care for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder completes assessments of children's learning well. She uses these to plan activities to develop and extend children's learning. She ensures that children of all ages and abilities are included and takes account of their individual needs and interests well. There is a good balance between adult-led activities and opportunities for children to play and lead their own play. Children are keen learners and ask a range of questions and the childminder skilfully uses her knowledge to extend their learning. Children demonstrate very good early mathematical skills. For example, they confidently count objects alongside the childminder during planned activities. Children understand that counting helps them to find the total amount.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are interested and keen to explore the safe, stimulating and welcoming environment. The childminder has clear expectations of children's behaviour. She teaches them to share and take turns. She praises children for their efforts which helps promote their strong self-esteem. Children learn to show respect for each other's different abilities and backgrounds. Planned activities, discussions and resources are used effectively to promote children's awareness of the wider community and diversity. The childminder encourages children's independence skills effectively. For example, children are aware of why they need to wash their hands, such as after using the bathroom or between messy activities. Children have good opportunities to be physically active, visiting parks and spending time in the childminder's garden.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in all areas of their learning. They enjoy taking part in activities and display a positive attitude to new experiences. Children develop good social and communication skills. They learn to express their interests and display confidence in their own abilities. Children are well supported to develop the necessary skills required for their future learning and eventual move to school.
