Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation, policies, procedures and qualifications. The inspector read letters from a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder knows how to keep children safe and secure. She has attended safeguarding training and knows how to recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder keeps up to date with new guidance and updates her procedures accordingly. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective, She seeks training opportunities to develop her already good teaching and works with other childminders to discuss ways to improve and develop her practice further. The childminder has clear plans in place to continually improve and she has a good attitude to change. The childminder has a range of policies and procedures which underpin her good practice. These are shared with parents to keep them informed of her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has an appropriate childcare qualification and is passionate about creating a stimulating environment for children. She offers them choices in their play and promotes independence. A wide range of resources are available which excite children and motivate them to explore. They use tools in sand and the childminder extends this by asking meaningful questions to support their thinking skills. Children build towers with the sand and discuss their thoughts. The childminder knows when to intervene and when to allow children to learn independently. The childminder observes children during play and continually assesses their development. She plans for each child's individual stage of development and monitors their progress to ensure any gaps in learning are promptly closed. Children's learning is shared with parents daily through a diary that the childminder completes to inform parents of what their child has been learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows each child very well. She understands their likes and dislikes and supports them to make independent choices. The childminder cooks healthy and nutritious meals for children and encourages them to try new foods. She takes them out daily to exercise and they enjoy searching for imaginary dragons in the nearby park. The childminder teaches children about their local community. They use the library and attend playgroups to develop their personal and social skills. All children have made strong bonds with the childminder and each other. The childminder comforts children when required and they enjoy sitting with her when reading stories. The childminder supports their physical and emotional development well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress in all areas of learning. They are extremely confident and have high levels of self-esteem. They engage in activities, enjoy their learning and show enthusiasm. Children concentrate well and make choices in their play. They listen to instructions, cooperate with their peers and are developing the skills required for successful future learning.
