This provision is good

 The friendly childminder establishes strong, warm relationships with children. They enjoy her cuddles and show that they feel very content and settled. Children welcome authorised visitors to the childminder's home, inviting them to join in with a welcome song. They enjoy sharing photographs of their previous experiences.  The childminder has a strong ethos of working in partnership with staff at other settings that children also attend. She regularly shares relevant information and borrows specific resources that she uses to support children's ongoing progress.  Children are active and inquisitive learners. They consistently engage in a wide range of interesting and exciting learning experiences. They experiment with how sounds change when they fill different sized, empty plastic bottles with various quantities of rice and dried pulses and shake them.  The childminder is reflective and continuously evaluates her practice to ensure that

children benefit from a high-quality learning environment.  The childminder takes children to a wide range of organised groups and outings in the community, such as local farms and nature walks. This helps them to develop a good understanding of the world, be physically active and meet and play with other children. Children also have immense fun using their observational skills to locate toy insects and birds hidden in the childminder's inviting garden.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, children are not given enough time to think about and respond to the childminder's enthusiastic questioning.  The initial information about children's learning that the childminder obtains from parents is not sufficiently detailed to fully support her early identification of their precise learning needs.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to enhance their thinking and speaking skills as they formulate answers and respond to questions posed during their play  extend the level of initial information obtained from parents to include further detail of children's development, in order to plan even more precisely for their continued progress from an early stage.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during indoor activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly discussed this with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records, a selection of policies, safety procedures and required documentation.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and adults who live at the premises over 16 years of age.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.  The inspector reviewed how the childminder evaluates her setting to continually improve outcomes for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. For example, the childminder implements a strict password system to enable the identification of people who are given permission by parents to collect children on their behalf. Furthermore, she knows how to swiftly meet children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to continuing to develop her knowledge. She completes regular training to continuously update her skills and shares good practice with other childminders on an online forum. As a result, the childminder has introduced further opportunities for children to actively express their choices. These help them to share control of their own learning. The childminder carefully reviews the learning programmes to ensure that any gaps in children's learning are swiftly addressed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder's knowledge of the children is gained through her detailed observations of their achievements and assessments. Overall, these enable her to identify their next steps in learning. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder's genuine interest in children's play and her consistent praise motivates them to persevere at completing challenging activities. For example, children develop good coordination as they thread beads onto a lace. They use the internet, under the close supervision of the childminder, to research information of interest to them. The childminder introduces children to mathematical ideas and number names in a fun and engaging way. Children learn to count from an early age. The childminder helps to promote children's literacy skills. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to the enthusiastic childminder as she reads their favourite stories. They begin to join in with repeated refrains and learn the pattern of rhyme.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder offers a caring, nurturing and fun-filled environment for children. She calmly and consistently reinforces good manners and supports children to take turns during activities. The childminder's clear explanations help children learn how to keep themselves safe in the sun. Children follow good hygiene procedures. They use individual flannels to wipe their faces after mealtimes. They enjoy a nutritious range of foods which the childminder provides. Children build their understanding of a healthy diet and develop a wide variety of tastes. They help the childminder to nurture and grow fruit, eventually, tasting what they have grown. Daily communication with parents means they are well informed of their child's progress with the childminder. Parents are extremely happy with the service that the childminder provides and welcome the ideas she offers to support their children's learning at home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making very good progress in their learning. They demonstrate curiosity and positive attitudes towards learning. Children are independent. They help to prepare their own lunch and confidently manage their outer clothing. These are some examples of key skills that they are developing to help prepare them well for their next stage of learning and their eventual move on to school.
