Inspection activities
The inspector talked to the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together. The inspector reviewed the provider's self-evaluation. The inspector toured the areas of the premises that children use. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, and the children's development records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands her responsibilities to protect children's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder evaluates her practice well and includes parents and children in the process, to continually improve. She has extended her resources to build on children's confidence, and investigative and physical skills. For example, children enjoy water activities outside where they explore and develop their interests. The childminder meets with other childminders to discuss teaching practice and implements ideas that have a positive impact on children's learning. The childminder knows the children well. She checks how well children are progressing, to identify clear next steps in their learning, which she shares with parents. She helps parents to extend children's learning at home, to further support the good progress children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder organises her space very well. She provides a wide range of freely available resources that encourage children to make independent choices. The childminder engages children well in activities and uses all opportunities to extend their learning well overall. For example, she models new words and comments effectively as children enjoy listening to stories and pointing to familiar items. Younger children are developing good communication and language skills. The childminder regularly observes and monitors children's learning and the progress that they make. She plans for their future learning well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show that they are very happy and confident in the childminder's home. The childminder is welcoming and attentive to children, and meets their individual needs well. She responds warmly to them, to support their emotional well-being. Children develop good attitudes towards each other and play cooperatively together. They learn about the wider community through resources and activities that teach them about the differences and similarities between themselves and others. The childminder promotes children's good health and well-being through a range of activities. For example, children enjoy planning nutritious food to cook and regularly play outside to develop good physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make progress that is at least typical for their ages and stages of development. They develop good self-esteem and are well motivated to learn. For example, children develop their hand and finger movements as they explore and make marks with spaghetti and dough. They concentrate well; for instance, as they stack bricks or explore dough. They are prepared well for their next stages in learning.
