This provision is good

 Partnerships with parents are strong and parents speak highly of the childminder and her assistants. Parents and extended families are warmly welcomed into the setting, and are regularly encouraged to extend their children's learning at home. Daily communication books are used for all children to update parents of their children's progress and time spent at the childminder's.  The childminder has implemented a programme of ongoing training and professional development to support her assistants and improve their knowledge and practice. Induction procedures are robust and ensure that assistants have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, including protecting the children in their care.  Children's personal, social and emotional development is promoted well. Settling-in procedures and discussions enable the childminder, her assistants and parents to work together effectively, in order to build children's sense of self-esteem and confidence.

p.1

This provision is good

 The well-qualified team has a good knowledge and understanding of the early years foundation stage. The team implements the learning and development requirements effectively. The childminder and her assistants regularly discuss and reflect on their practice, ensuring that they meet these consistently and raise the quality.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasions, older children do not have enough time to think about how to respond to questions and comments from the adults.  The childminder and her assistants do not always recognise when children are ready to move on from an activity and explore other learning opportunities on offer.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide older children with sufficient time to respond to questions and comments  recognise signs that children are becoming ready to move on from an activity, and explore other experiences to enhance and broaden their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities taking place, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder and her assistants.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of the childminder and the assistants who work with her.  The inspector took account of the views of parents as provided in questionnaire documentation. She spoke with the children and the childminder's assistants at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation record. She discussed how the childminder and her assistants review and evaluate their work to promote continuous improvement.  The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including, safeguarding procedures, training certificates, attendance registers and observation and assessment records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Since the last inspection, the childminder has implemented effective changes. She has completed all required checks on her assistants to ensure that they are suitable to work with children. The childminder records all children's hours of attendance each day, and fully understands her responsibilities to safeguard the children in her care. She has developed her knowledge and understanding of data protection, and attends regular safeguarding training with her assistants to help ensure that children are fully protected. Regular meetings and discussions enable the childminder to supervise and monitor the teaching practice of her assistants. The childminder has strong relationships with other settings, such as pre-schools that she collects children from. She promotes a regular two-way flow of communication, in order to ensure that children's all-round care, learning and support is well promoted.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children explore a range of interesting activities and experiences. As they make their own dough, the childminder and her assistants support and encourage them to weigh, measure and feel the different textures. Adults ask probing questions to extend older children's thinking as they introduce a range of alphabet resources. Occasionally, they do not give them enough time to respond. Older children identify the letters of their first names and those of their younger friends. They extend their own play by finding letters around the room, and enjoy a spontaneous game of 'I-spy' as the childminder encourages them to seek out further letters and sounds. Overall, teaching is good. Young babies' speech and language is supported as the childminder and her assistants encourage their participation in story and singing time. The childminder and her assistants constantly talk to the children and repeat a range of words and sounds, which younger children begin to copy

and repeat. The childminder and her assistants observe and assess children's ongoing progress. They identify children's next steps in learning and incorporate these into activities that interest and challenge them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

All children build strong relationships with the childminder and her assistants and develop firm friendships with other children. Young babies put their arms up to the adults to be picked up, and smile happily as they snuggle in tight when held. Children behave well. They demonstrate good sharing and turn-taking skills when they take part in group activities. The childminder ensures that children eat a range of wholesome and healthy foods, and provides freshly made snacks and meals. She supports children to learn about good health. They benefit from daily physical play and fresh air and have opportunities to take part in outside activities, such as music and dance sessions.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, are making good progress in their learning given their starting points and capabilities. All children are motivated to learn and are acquiring the key skills they need for future learning, including their move on to school.
