This provision is good
The childminder has created strong bonds and attachments with the children. They are excited to attend the setting, and feel safe and secure in his care. The childminder knows individual children well and supports their emotional well-being effectively. Children make good progress. The childminder uses his home well as an effective learning environment. Children enjoy exploring their surroundings, where they can make choices about their play from a varied range of resources. The childminder provides interesting activities to capture and sustain children's curiosity to learn. Children become deeply involved in their play and develop good concentration skills. Children enjoy listening to familiar stories. The childminder makes good use of books to support children's early literacy skills. For example, he adds interesting objects or props during story times to enrich children's learning experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is yet to embed his programme of professional development fully, to enable him to raise the quality of teaching even further and achieve excellent outcomes for children. The childminder does not always consider all opportunities to increase children's physical skills, particularly to support those children who enjoy learning indoors.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and the children interacting during play activities. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection, regarding his practice and the arrangements for observation, assessment and planning. The inspector checked the documentation that the childminder uses to support his practices. The inspector discussed self-evaluation processes with the childminder. The inspector considered the views of parents through discussions and by reviewing written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has clear procedures in place to report any concerns about a child's welfare. He carries out daily risk assessments in the home to reduce hazards for children and to keep them safe. The childminder works well with parents. For example, he communicates with them on a daily basis and shares information about their children's day. He strives to ensure children receive continuity in their care and learning, and to help them make good progress with their development. Overall, the childminder organises and manages his setting well. He generally keeps up to date with any changes to legislation, for example, and reads relevant literature and holds discussions about practice issues with his co-childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder monitors children's progress well. He has a good knowledge of what children can do and what they need to learn next. The childminder engages children well in activities, and provides them with a range of stimulating experiences and activities. For example, children investigate and explore natural objects, while concentrating for extended periods. The childminder enables young children to 'have a go' with completing activities, such as puzzles. For example, he knows how to adapt learning and provide assistance to help children succeed with their problem-solving skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages positive behaviour in children from a young age. For example, he reminds children to share while they play together, and supports their social skills well. The childminder encourages children to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For example, he offers healthy food choices and reinforces the importance of healthy eating. Children are beginning to develop their independence skills. For example, they are able to feed themselves and find their own beakers when they want a drink. Children's awareness of following hygiene practices is developing well. For example, young children learn that handwashing is important to help maintain their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. The childminder has a secure understanding of the age group that he is working with. Children thoroughly enjoy looking at books. For example, they begin to name objects on pages and extend their vocabulary, while developing their literacy skills. All children are motivated learners and gain essential skills required for their eventual move on to school.
