This provision is good
The childminder uses her secure knowledge of the individual needs of children to provide enjoyable and engaging activities for them across all areas of learning. This helps children to make good progress in their learning. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to keep children safe. She knows how to raise a concern if she has concerns regarding a child's welfare. Children are happy and confident under the childminder's attentive and sensitive care. She knows the children very well, which helps her to support their emotional well- being. The childminder uses very good communication skills to constantly engage children in conversation and play. Children develop highly competent listening and speaking skills.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always take the opportunities to gain the views of parents and children to further inform the self-evaluation process. The childminder does not provide a broad range of opportunities for children to explore and experiment with different media and materials to build on their sensory exploration.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including children's records. The inspector held conversations with parents to gain their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder evaluates her practice and implements changes to improve outcomes for children. For example, she has gained a childcare qualification to help her better understand how children learn. She effectively targets further areas for development, such as redeveloping her garden to make it a more enriched learning environment. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements safety measures, both in the home and while on outings. She teaches children to identify risks, and how to keep themselves safe. The childminder works very closely with other settings to share information about children's learning. She uses the information to provide consistent learning opportunities and build on what children learn elsewhere.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder effectively observes, assesses and monitors children's learning. This enables her to identify emerging gaps in children's learning quickly and close these swiftly. Parents are well informed of their children's next steps and how to support the learning at home. This contributes effectively towards continuity of care and learning for children. The childminder interacts skilfully with children and promotes their developing skills well. She provides new resources in response to children's growing interest in phonics. For example, children thoroughly enjoy building words and learn about the sounds that letters make using a new game. Children are motivated to learn and concentrate well for extended periods.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's physical and emotional well-being very well. She creates a welcoming environment where children feel secure. She models good behaviour consistently and children respond with good manners and respect towards others. The childminder ensures that children benefit from fresh air and exercise daily; for example, they explore the local community and parks. The childminder visits many local playgroups and the local library to help children extend their learning and socialise with others. The childminder teaches children the importance of a healthy lifestyle and they follow good hygiene practices.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to be independent and successful in managing their personal care needs. For example, children know that they need to wash their hands before eating. Children make good progress in their learning and development, and are well prepared for the next stages of their education. They gain useful skills in communication and language development and social skills. Children have a positive attitude towards their learning.
