This provision is good
The childminder's robust monitoring systems enable her to quickly identify if any child is at risk of falling behind. She is able to secure additional help for any children who require it to support their development across all areas of learning. Children's individual needs and preferences are known and respected by the childminder and her assistant. They skilfully adapt activities to provide appropriate levels of challenge for children. The childminder and her assistant provide a welcoming and homely environment to care for children. Children access a range of interesting resources independently which stimulate their play. Children have a range of opportunities to explore the environment freely and take well- managed risks. The childminder uses clear explanations to help children use equipment safely. This contributes to their self-confidence and ability to keep themselves safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder and her assistant do not make the most of opportunities to focus sharply on evaluating the quality of their practice to further develop their teaching skills. The childminder has not yet developed information sharing systems, in order to fully involve other providers to support her planning and assessment arrangements.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding purposes. The inspector spoke with the childminder and her assistant at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of her suitability and qualifications. The inspector reviewed written feedback, submitted by parents. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and her assistant. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibilities and her setting is well managed. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of potential indicators of abuse and how to respond to these, in order to keep children safe from harm. She maintains records well, including registers of attendance and risk assessments, which contribute to the effectiveness of her practice. The childminder and her assistant are ambitious. They both have a clear commitment to enhancing children's development. The opinions of parents and children are sought when the childminder seeks to develop her provision. She values children's preferences and encourages them to select the kinds of resources they would like to play with. Parents have regular opportunities to learn more about children's daily activities and are provided with suggestions of how they can support children at home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant both demonstrate a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Their existing knowledge is applied to deliver activities and experiences which children find interesting. Children begin to play imaginatively as they use familiar small-world resources. Their speaking skills are reinforced and extended as the childminder role models vocabulary and uses questions skilfully. Children explore shape and size using a range of materials. They have plenty of time to experiment, when the childminder provides a range of boxes, tubes and containers for them to do so. Children are curious about the learning environment. They enjoy listening to familiar stories. The childminder and her assistant use appropriate teaching strategies, which are securely based on their assessments of what each child can already do. The childminder's observations help to support her robust tracking systems, which have developed well since
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have good relationships with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder is very responsive and attentive to the different ways children communicate. The premises is clean and well maintained and children's health is well promoted. Hygiene routines are understood by children and consistently embedded in practice. They are offered a range of healthy snacks, meals and drinks. The childminder ensures that the foods provided are nutritionally balanced and adhere to children's individual dietary requirements. Children also regularly access the outdoor area and go out in the local community. Children learn about other cultures, as well as their own. This helps to prepare them for life and be respectful of others. Children evidently feel secure at the setting. They behave well and their self-esteem is supported as the childminder praises their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress, relative to their individual starting points. They confidently communicate their needs to adults. The children make independent choices and are encouraged to follow their own ideas. They are developing positive attitudes towards learning and are well prepared for the next stage of their learning.
