This provision is good
Children benefit from a warm and caring relationship with the childminder. They are confident to seek her out for a cuddle and welcome her to play alongside them. The childminder plans a range of activities and experiences based on the observations she undertakes of each child. All children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder has good links with the local school and other settings that children move on to and this helps to support children as they move on to the next stage of their learning. Overall, partnerships with parents are successful. The childminder promotes children's health and physical development effectively. Children enjoy healthy meals and have opportunities to be physically active. The childminder has evaluated the effectiveness of her practice accurately and has identified ways in which she can make further improvements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always make full use of the settling-in times to gain as much information as possible from parents, to target support for children from when they very first start. The childminder does not organise her resources as well as possible to promote children's independent learning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector toured the premises and observed indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information and learning records, the attendance register, policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection and discussed safeguarding requirements. The inspector viewed suitability checks and discussed the self-evaluation process. The inspector spoke to a parent at the setting and took account of her views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's safety and welfare. The childminder has a positive approach to improving the quality of provision. She uses self-evaluation to reflect on her strengths and the weaknesses and works with other professionals to share good practice and implement changes. For example, she has recently purchased some new resources to support her in monitoring children's progress more effectively. The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's overall well-being. She follows children's care routines to offer consistency and to meet their individual needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children play in a well-resourced and stimulating environment. The childminder uses her ongoing observations and assessments of children's learning to plan a range of experiences that stimulates their interests and motivates them to learn. The childminder actively takes part in their play. She promotes communication and language particularly well. For example, she repeats phrases, sounds-out words and matches words to pictures when reading stories. The childminder introduces mathematical understanding into children's play. For example, during a water-play activity children enjoy counting fish and identify the different colours, as they explore what is in the water.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle quickly and have a good sense of belonging in a safe environment. Children behave well. They learn to share and take turns. The childminder reinforces their good behaviour with constant praise and recognition of their achievements. The childminder meets the children's care, health and dietary needs well. Children benefit from lots of fresh air and enjoy regular trips in the community. For example, children attend community groups where they socialise and learn about the world around them. The childminder conducts daily safety checks to help ensure that children explore the environment safely. She implements regular emergency evacuation procedures to support children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress; they are working within the typical range of development for their age. The childminder is preparing children well to develop the skills they need for their next stage in learning and their move to school. For example, children independently follow good hygiene routines, solve problems in their play and are confident and eager to learn.
