This provision is good
Children are happy and settled in their environment. The childminder has developed good relationships with children to promote their confidence. Children enjoy outdoor activities. The childminder supervises them well, such as when playing on large equipment. Children learn to take appropriate risks in their play, to ensure their safety and welfare. The childminder supports children's good health well. She provides good explanations to help children think about their personal care needs. The childminder has a strong understanding of how children learn through play, and all children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has built good relationships with parents, enabling them to contribute towards their children's ongoing assessments and progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to strengthen links with all professionals, in particular school staff, to support children's learning interests. The childminder does not always use all opportunities to help children understand about growth and about caring for living things, to enhance their understanding of the natural environment.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children throughout the learning environment. The inspector spoke to the childminder at different intervals during the inspection. The inspector held discussions with children and took into account their learning experiences and play. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her evaluation processes, risk assessments, planning and children's assessment records. The inspector reviewed relevant documents, including the childminder's policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow to report any welfare concerns. She implements effective risk assessments to ensure children are cared for in a safe and secure environment, to support their welfare. The childminder has good processes in place for self-evaluation. For example, she obtains the views of parents, such as through discussions and questionnaires, to strengthen the service that she provides. She is committed to enhancing her ongoing professional development. For example, she seeks training opportunities to update her knowledge, such as in child development, and to strengthen her planning in all areas of learning. The childminder builds secure partnerships with other early years providers to support continuity in children's learning and care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder carries out observations and uses the information gained to inform her planning and to monitor children's progress. She has a strong understanding of supporting children's individual needs, according to their level of understanding and stage of development. She effectively supports children's interests, and enables them to take part in meaningful play experiences. Children are motivated to learn and show a keen interest in their environment, such as when observing mini creatures. Children enjoy counting experiences and learn to use number words in the correct way, to support their early mathematical skills, for example, by stating how old they are.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive lots of praise to help them learn right from wrong. Older and younger children play harmoniously together, and through positive reinforcement, children learn the importance of sharing with their friends. The childminder follows children's lead well, enabling them to pursue their own play and independence. Children enjoy music and movement sessions, and use a range of coordination skills, such as when playing on the trampoline. Through the childminder's good role modelling, children learn about healthy practices. For example, they understand that when they are physically active and their heart beats faster, it promotes their good health. Children learn to value the importance of their personal health and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are prepared well for their move to school. For example, they confidently express their ideas and thoughts, and develop an extensive vocabulary. Children enjoy taking part in mark making activities, and they learn to make connections with their marks, to promote their early writing skills. Children have many opportunities to use their imagination and to be creative. For example, they confidently act out real-life situations.
