This provision is good

 Children are happy and settled under the childminder's very sensitive and attentive care. They are secure and confident and this helps them to become curious and inquisitive learners.  The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe. She has a good understanding of child protection procedures and of how to identify and report concerns.  The childminder uses her secure knowledge of the individual needs of children to provide enjoyable and engaging activities for them across all areas of learning. This helps children to make good progress in their learning.  The childminder communicates well and engages fully with children. This helps them to develop good language and listening skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder's system for tracking children's development does not always focus sharply enough on gaps in children's learning and what they need to do next to help them make even better progress.  The childminder does not always make the most of all opportunities and environments to provide sensory activities for young children to explore.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on the already good systems for tracking children's development, to focus more sharply on the next steps of learning that they need to take to help them make even better progress  build on the opportunities for children to explore sensory activities in all environments.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including children's records.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements and keeps up to date with current legislation. Since her last inspection, the childminder has developed the systems to help her monitor her practice. She includes the views of parents and children to help her identify improvements to her practice. She updates resources to meet children's individual interests and learning needs. For example, she has recently developed her mathematical puzzles. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to keep children safe. For example, she continually risk assesses her home and the environment where the children play to ensure that there are no hazards.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and she plans activities to meet their individual learning needs and interests. She organises interesting activities and plays on the floor alongside children, encouraging them to engage in play and explore the environment. The childminder uses all opportunities to extend children's learning, for example, she sings number songs to support young children to count. This allows children to make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has good partnerships with parents and shares children's achievements with them regularly through their daily journal. This helps parents to support children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has strong relationships with children. She provides a welcoming environment that helps them to feel secure. Children attend local playgroups to meet others. This helps them to become confident, respect others and develop good social skills. The childminder teaches children about the importance of daily outdoor play and staying healthy. For example, children enjoy exercise on visits to local parks. Care routines are carried out hygienically and sensitively, which helps to support children's needs well.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are consistently engaged in their play and learning. They enjoy the challenging activities that target their individual learning needs successfully. Children gain good independent skills. For example, young children make their own choices at snack time and feed themselves. Children gain new vocabulary and develop good communication skills. This helps to prepare them for their next stage in learning.
