This provision is good
The childminder works closely with other professionals that care for the children and this helps to provide good continuity of care and learning to them. The childminder works closely with parents to review her practice and successfully uses information she gains to help shape the service she provides. The childminder works closely with parents and other professionals to teach children clear boundaries and expectations. Children behave well, given their ages and stages of development. The childminder increases children's awareness of healthy lifestyles and promotes their emotional well-being. Children learn the importance of personal hygiene practices and why they need to try different fruits and vegetables.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always fully promote children's early literacy skills. For example, she does not consistently provide older children with activities to extend their learning, such as sounding out letters as they learn the alphabet. The childminder does not always review the resources she makes available to children, such as when they play outside. For example, some of the resources outdoors are too small for older children to use, such as the slide being too small for some of the children to use.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children in the main play areas and the garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector reviewed documents, including safeguarding and the children's files. The inspector took into account parents' written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection. She keeps up to date with any changes to legislation and she is fully aware of how to report any concerns for children's welfare. The childminder helps enable children to play in safety; for example, she carries out effective risk assessments to minimise potential hazards. Children successfully learn what to do in the event of an emergency; for example, they practise the fire drill regularly. The childminder evaluates her practice and works on improvements to her practice. For example, she attends regular training and uses this to help her to provide good-quality activities and care. The childminder works closely with other professionals, such as the local early years advisors, to help her assess the quality of her practice. This helps her to successfully implement changes to the activities and care she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder successfully uses her good knowledge of children's interests and stages of development to help move them on to their next step of learning. The childminder completes observations and assessments to effectively track children's learning. This helps her to successfully identify areas to work on to enhance children's learning and development further. This also helps to narrow any gaps in children's learning. The childminder teaches children well, helping them to progress successfully with their learning. For example, she asks effective questions to help children to think about their replies, such as describing what they are making with the play dough.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are confident learners and readily help themselves to resources. For example, they go and get a tunnel and set it up alongside a tent and balls to play with it. They develop good self-help skills. For example, they independently get themselves ready to play outside by putting on their own shoes and jackets. The childminder works closely with parents to promote healthy eating. For example, she gives them suggestions on what they can make for healthy packed lunches. She has effective procedures in place to teach the children about their own health and well-being. For example, she talks with children about what is healthy food and what food they should eat in moderation.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They gain the skills they need in readiness for the next stage in their learning and move to nursery and school. Children learn how to share and take turns. Children enjoy a good range of activities that help to promote their mathematical development. For example, as children use play dough, they compare sizes of pots and count the number of food items they have made.
