The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's safeguarding knowledge, and took account of her self-evaluation and the views of parents. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning journals and policies and procedures. The inspector viewed the rooms used by the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a strong knowledge of the individual needs of each child. She works well with other early years professionals as they share information about children's learning and development. The childminder regularly completes observations and assessments to identify each child's next steps in their learning. She reviews children's progress effectively and closes any development gaps quickly. The childminder has a good awareness of child protection and knows how to act if she has concerns about a child's welfare. Safeguarding is effective.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder shares good detail with parents about their children's learning needs. For example, she sends messages and photographs during the day. The childminder interacts well with the children to support them and to encourage their learning and development. She develops their communication and language effectively. For example, she talks to children about what they are doing, asks good questions that get them to think, and introduces new words. She builds on their mathematical skills, for instance, she teaches them to count and to recognise different shapes in the environment. The childminder helps children to become independent in managing their own personal needs. Children are happy and eager to take part in activities. They develop a good awareness of the need for a healthy lifestyle. For example, they are very involved in making nutritious snacks, such as fruit kebabs. The childminder ensures that children are emotionally well prepared for the next stages in their learning. For example, children learn to cooperate with one another.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the key skills they need for their eventual move to school, and they make very positive progress from their starting points. Children use their imagination well, for example, as they confidently use the role play resources to make pretend meals. They learn about people's differences and similarities in the wider community. Children develop good physical abilities, for instance, they visit local parks where they master skills such as climbing, hopping and using the slide. They have fun, for example, as they enjoy singing familiar songs and joining in with action rhymes.
