Inspection activities
The inspector toured the premises and viewed resources. The inspector observed the children and staff at play. The inspector examined the records and documents provided by the manager and jointly observed an activity with the manager. The inspector discussed the setting with parents to gain their views. The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the manager.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. Management and staff are fully aware of all the policies and procedures that help to keep children safe and secure, including the action to take if they are concerned about the welfare of a child. Staff work very successfully in partnership with parents to provide excellent consistency in children's care and learning. Staff skilfully adapt to children's changing interests and meet their individual needs extremely well as they encourage them to think and participate. Highly rigorous evaluation of the service helps the management and staff to identify aspects for improvement. For example, they successfully reorganised the book area to improve children's interest in the vast range of books available. Highly effective progress monitoring now ensures that every child receives the help and encouragement they need to make excellent progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
Staff use a very wide range of resources and learning opportunities that extend children's skills exceptionally well. They continually encourage children to be creative and physically active in their play. For example, the children wanted to build a robot with large wooden blocks. Staff encouraged children to think about what was needed and to talk about the size and shape of the robot. The children solved problems and worked extremely well together to build a structure that they could climb, balance on and jump from. These extremely rich learning experiences continually stimulate children's interests and physical abilities. Overall, staff plan activities that fully engage the children and further challenge their ideas. The manager recognises that even more could be done to enable children to complete activities to their satisfaction, to extend their learning even further.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children arrive extremely confidently and settle quickly. Staff greet them and make them feel exceptionally welcome. They listen attentively to what children have to say, follow their ideas and are excellent role models. Children are extremely caring towards each other. For example, older children kindly explain to others how to use the timers to take turns in play. Children are highly involved in learning about foods that are good or bad for them. For example, they made a large caterpillar, based on a favourite story, and identified healthy and unhealthy food options as they threw pretend food into its mouth.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children demonstrate excellent communication and social skills. They listen and share ideas very well, and older children ask many questions and talk about their families, experiences and birthdays. Children make excellent use of books to inspire their imaginations and increase their factual knowledge. All children are exceptionally well prepared for the next stages in their learning.
