a very young age to recognise and celebrate each other's achievements. This helps to raise their self-esteem and confidence to the highest level.  Parents value the childminder as an essential part of their children's lives. They recognise that she goes above and beyond what is expected to provide love, care and fantastic experiences for their children.  The childminder fully considers the views of her assistant, parents and children as part of her self-reflection. This ensures that her priorities for development are well considered.  The childminder completes comprehensive records as children move on to a new setting. This makes sure that all parties are fully aware of children's current achievements, progress and development.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector and childminder jointly observed children's play and the inspector evaluated the accuracy of the childminder's assessment of the learning that was taking place.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adult members of the household.  The inspector took account of the views of parents provided through written feedback.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has a vast amount of experience and an excellent understanding of how children learn and develop. She supports her regular assistant extremely well through close supervision and through external training. This has a significant impact on children's progress. For example, the childminder has embarked on an accredited course to further support children to learn through movement. This is one example of the childminder's strong and proactive approach to maintaining exemplary practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is trained well in child protection. She makes sure that all parents know and understand the action she would take if she was concerned about a child's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder pays extremely close attention and listens carefully so that she can fully understand, respond appropriately and meet children's individual needs. Children develop their own play and show extremely high levels of engagement. Children have developed a love of books. They very quickly develop their reading skills as they recognise letters and familiar words in the print-rich environment. They manipulate and handle a variety of tools, making marks with rollers, brushes and water. The childminder monitors children's progress exceedingly well. Learning summaries, to stretch and challenge children in their learning, are completed with parents, providing them with a precise plan for children's next steps. This supports a shared approach to children's care, learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has created an inspiring and nurturing environment where children get off to an exceptional start. Children are thriving in the setting. They are confident, secure and very motivated. Children behave extremely well and respond to the childminder's firm, but fair guidance and boundaries. Young children learn very quickly to share, take turns and consider the feelings of others. Children have extended opportunities to fully develop their physical skills and have daily access to fresh air and exercise. However, the childminder has established that opportunities for children to find out about and investigate the natural world could be enhanced further. Young children are supported well with developing skills. With supervision and guidance they confidently and safely use knives to cut and prepare fruit for snack. The childminder provides weekly opportunities for children to try new foods

and tastes, building and encouraging positive attitudes to endorse healthy eating.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make consistently strong progress in all areas of learning, exceeding expectations for their ages and stages of development. They are confident and motivated to learn, displaying high levels of involvement and well-being. Children are polite and develop increasing maturity as they capably articulate their feelings and emotions. They focus and concentrate for increasing periods of time. Consequently, children are exceedingly well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including the move on to school.
