This provision is good
The management team uses clear and effective evaluation to identify areas to improve. Clear and successful operational plans help them to monitor impact, such as the new assessment systems, to ensure they work well in contributing to children's progress. Staff work closely with the adjoining school and other professionals. They regularly share information about the children to ensure children settle with ease when they move on to school. Staff organise a broad range of well-planned activities. They use effective assessment of children's achievements to ensure all children make good progress. Children have strong relationships with staff, and are happy and confident. Staff work closely with parents. They share information about children's learning needs, enabling parents to support further learning at home. Staff support the children well to do things for themselves and become independent. They direct and instruct the children, rather than do it for them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The monitoring of staff performance, especially those with less experience, is not fully effective to ensure all staff provide consistently effective support to all children, particularly the communication and language skills of children with special educational needs.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen the monitoring of staff performance, particularly for those with less experience, to raise the quality of teaching and support staff provide to individual children, especially those with special educational needs, so all children receive consistently high learning experiences.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children and staff during activities indoors and in the outside learning environment. The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager. The inspector held meetings with the manager and committee chairperson, and spoke with parents, staff and children. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including assessment records and planning, policies and procedures, and feedback from parents. The inspector checked evidence of suitability and qualifications of staff, and the pre- school's self-evaluation and improvement plan.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The management team and staff have a secure knowledge of the requirements to keep children safe. They attend relevant safeguarding training to ensure they know the procedures to follow if they have a child protection concern. They complete regular risk assessments of the environment to help them ensure children remain safe and secure. Safeguarding is effective. The management team follows effective arrangements for recruiting new staff to ensure their suitability. They complete regular appraisals with staff and encourage further training. This has developed staff's skills in promoting children's good behaviour and respect for others.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff use their knowledge of the children effectively to ensure activities interest and motivate children to learn. Accurate tracking of children's progress means that staff know what children need to learn next, to ensure gaps in their learning close quickly. Staff provide children with good opportunities to explore the forest school environment. They teach them new skills, for example to use string to make spider webs through the trees. Overall, staff support children's language and communication development well. Most staff use signing to help children communicate and understand. Staff use children's interest in goldfish effectively to develop their mathematical and physical skills. Children develop good control using scissors to cut out their own fish they create, decorate them and compare the different sizes. Children learn about the value and use of money when role playing in the pretend shop.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children arrive happily and settle into the daily routines well. Staff encourage parents to help settle their children at the beginning of sessions. They provide a bright, child-friendly environment, which motivates children's learning. Staff teach children well about how to play safely, for example when in the forest school environment. They explain why some situations may be dangerous and help children to take safe risks and gain confidence in their abilities, for example, when making wooden medallions with handsaws. Staff are positive role models and support children well to behave.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good investigative skills and enjoy experimenting, such as catching fish with a magnetic fishing rod. They enjoy messy play activities to make marks in foam and find the hidden numbers. Children sing many familiar nursery rhymes and action songs, developing their vocabulary and number skills further. Children play well with others, sharing and taking turns. They develop the skills they need for moving on to school.
