This provision is outstanding

 The provider and staff constantly reflect on their practices and expertly adapt their teaching to improve children's excellent learning experiences and outcomes even further. They observe and listen extremely carefully to children's thoughts and ideas. For example, staff extended children's interest in pirates with the creation of a wooden structure to resemble a boat.  Parents receive and share highly informative detail about their children's achievements and development needs. They comment about how extremely confident and curious their children have become.  Staff plan innovative activities to engage and interest children. For example, children were enthralled as they used tools to extract colour from crushed flowers to create patterns on a strip of calico and made their own bandanas.  Children's behaviour is exemplary. For example, they negotiate extremely well during their imaginative play, take turns and share resources without staff intervention.

p.1

This provision is outstanding

 All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make rapid progress in their learning. They are all extremely well-prepared for school.  The provider has exceptionally comprehensive procedures for risk assessing, and managing the environment and activities. Staff teach children how to keep safe, enabling them to thoroughly enjoy their outdoor experiences. For example, children tell visitors that they must not cross the rope on the ground around the fire pit, and have an exemplary understanding of the possible dangers.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 continue to encourage the already excellent approach to sharing information about children's learning with other settings that they attend.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector held meetings with the provider/manager and completed a joint observation of an activity.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including risk assessments and some children's learning records.  The inspector took account of the views of parents.  The inspector checked evidence of safeguarding practices, staff recruitment, ongoing professional development and self-evaluation processes.  The inspector observed children and staff engaging in activities.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Safeguarding is effective. The provider and staff have an extremely secure understanding of the procedures to follow if they have concerns about a child's welfare. The provider supports staff with highly effective coaching and training opportunities to build on their already excellent teaching skills and knowledge. There are highly effective partnerships with other settings that children attend and the provider plans to build on these even further. The provider and staff meticulously observe, assess and monitor children's achievements. They promptly identify any gaps in children's development and decide how best to address these, based on their excellent knowledge of each child. Additional funding is used exceptionally well to support individual learning needs. For example, resources were purchased to provide more challenge and one-to-one support.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The enthusiastic staff meticulously plan exciting activities to meet each child's next steps in learning. For example, they expertly teach children to recognise numerals up to 10 as they use wooden numbered discs and a wide range of interesting items for counting and matching. Staff ensure that children confidently know how to find out information to extend their knowledge even further. For example, they look at books about the lifecycle of a frog as they observe tadpoles grown from frogspawn. In addition, they know staff will help them look up information on the computer tablet, such as to identify a butterfly or an animal track in the mud. Children use their imagination extremely well as they invent songs and stories, and become totally engrossed in their games.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Staff provide excellent activities to extend and challenge children's physical development. For example, the very popular rope swing strengthens children's upper body. Children manage their own safety highly confidently. For example, they skilfully clamber over challenging wooden structures or balance carefully on the strap line between trees. There are exceptional relationships between staff and children in the unique and nurturing environment. Children's emotional well-being is extremely secure and gives them exceptional confidence and motivation to persevere at new tasks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are extremely enthusiastic and eager to take part in activities and learn. For example, they all comment on their favourite part of the day during the final group activity. They very patiently wait their turn with the 'talking stick' and listen to what others have to say. Children are extremely keen to practise their writing skills. For example, they make marks with sticks in the mud, find charcoal to write with, or use clipboards and pens to record their mud pie recipes.
