The childminder establishes a positive relationship with children. She is kind and caring, and has a good understanding of children's individual needs. Children are happy and settled with the childminder. The childminder supports children's increasing physical skills effectively. For example, she ensures that children have plenty of exercise and encourages outdoor play as part of their routine. Children enjoyed pushing walkers and going on 'buggy walks' during activities. Children make good progress in their learning. The childminder builds good partnerships with parents. For example, she encourages parents to share information about what their children know and can do, to provide consistent care and education. Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector checked documents relating to the suitability and qualifications of the childminder, and sampled documentation, including safeguarding procedures and children's records. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector read the childminder's self-evaluation document and examined how she evaluates her provision and drives improvements. The inspector read written feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how to safeguard children. For example, she carries out daily risk assessments, including when out on outings. She enables children to take supervised and reasonable risks as part of their development, for example, to help them understand how to keep themselves safe. The childminder reflects on her practice and works well with other childminders, for instance, to share ideas and keep abreast of current developments in the childcare sector. She uses evaluation to identify her strengths and target areas for improvement. The childminder continues to improve her knowledge and skills to benefit children and their families. For example, she attended training to enhance learning experiences for two-year-olds even further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a strong understanding of how children learn. She provides interesting and varied experiences to keep children motivated. For example, children enjoyed playing in the sand, exploring sensory play using shaving foam, and playing with musical instruments. The childminder supports children's developing communication and language skills successfully. For example, she responds to children's attempts to communicate by repeating what they say. Children enjoy listening to stories and singing lots of nursery songs. The childminder observes, tracks and assesses children's progress effectively. This helps her to plan challenging activities and identify children's next steps.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder interacts positively with children. For example, she comforts and cuddles them if they become tired or need reassurance. Even though children have not been attending for a long time, they are very settled and content. The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles well. For example, she provides children with fresh fruit for snack and encourages them to try new foods. The childminder sets clear and age- appropriate boundaries to help children behave well. For example, she encourages children to respect resources, and to share and take turns. Children develop social skills, such as when they mix with other children at toddler groups they attend.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident to explore their surroundings and are able to access toys and equipment to support their play. Children learn about similarities and differences, including through using resources such as role play dolls, toys and books. Overall, children are making good progress from their starting points and gaining important skills to support their future learning.
