This provision is outstanding
The well-qualified childminder's care and teaching are outstanding. She innovatively further develops her already excellent knowledge through research and by completing training provided by the early years organisations she belongs to. The childminder draws on these, her placement at a local nursery, and her close links with other childminders to evaluate and adapt her practice and procedures. Parents highlight how much their children enjoy being with the childminder and how well she looks after them and promotes their excellent progress. Parents welcome the childminder's timely, professional advice and regular opportunities to discuss their children's development. The childminder and parents very successfully plan together how they will follow up children's future learning needs. Children are very happy and settled, responding to the childminder's attentive, kind manner and calm reassurance. She consistently encourages children and praises their

efforts, for instance, as they talk about their work and celebrate their achievements. Children are very confident, eagerly express their ideas, are willing to try new experiences and want to do well. Children readily respond to the childminder's high expectations of their behaviour. They are extremely polite, considerate and show kindness and concern for others. The childminder skilfully builds on these attributes. She and the children fundraise for other people and learn about aspects of animal welfare through their sponsorship of two rescue dogs. The childminder interacts extremely well with children. Through her skilful questions and explanations she fosters children's expressive language as they describe, recall events and work out problems. She and children have lively conversations as children eagerly discuss what they are making and talk about the appearance, colours and textures of the interesting resources they are using.

review the planned changes to provide even more opportunities for children to recognise and link sounds to letters and evaluate the impact this has on their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector also spoke to a teacher at the nursery some children attend. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's training and suitability and discussed her plans for improvement. The inspector took account of parents' views expressed in their written feedback to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is passionate about offering children and families an excellent service. She astutely evaluates all aspects of her provision and promptly and successfully makes changes. The childminder takes account of children and parents' views and of ideas from training and her research. For example, by offering children a wider range of physical play activities and equipment she has improved their levels of fitness and stamina. The childminder has excellent links with local childminders, nurseries and schools. This ensures consistency and continuity for children who attend more than one setting and are preparing to start school. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder frequently completes safeguarding training and has a thorough knowledge of abuse, neglect and other risks to children. She sensitively teaches children how to promote their own personal safety and to minimise risks to themselves. The childminder carefully

monitors children's welfare and takes prompt action if she has any concerns about a child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder's thorough assessments and tracking of children's progress ensure she accurately identifies children's starting points and their continued development. She uses this information to highlight ambitious next steps for each child's learning, taking account of parents' views and children's interests. The childminder skilfully follows these up in her planning and teaching. Children thoroughly enjoy the many exciting, challenging activities. These promote their purposeful learning, curiosity, creativity and exploration. For example, children imaginatively express themselves through music and their colourful, often elaborate, collages, models and paintings. Children make some recognisable marks as they label their work. They identify some letters, sounds and syllables. The childminder wants to provide further opportunities for children to develop these literacy skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder ensures children are very well cared for and have an excellent understanding of how to keep healthy and safe. She ensures children are well nourished and competently manage their self-care and good hygiene. Children enjoy being physically active and they and the childminder discuss the impact of exercise on their heart, breathing and bodies. In their artwork, older children highlight the dangers of smoking. Children behave safely and sensibly as they use apparatus, scissors and utensils. They have a growing understanding of road safety. Children listen to and respond quickly to the childminder's signals for stopping and waiting for her when they walk to nursery.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children make outstanding progress in relation to their starting points. They are highly motivated, resourceful and imaginative learners who readily initiate ideas as well as relishing adult-led activities. Children are extremely confident and articulate, eagerly contributing to discussions and responding to or asking questions. Children have an excellent understanding of early mathematics. They accurately count and compare numbers and enjoy finding these in different contexts such as on house signs.
