This provision is good
The manager has a clear vision for the playgroup. She implements effective systems for monitoring the educational programmes, evaluating the quality of the setting, and managing staff's performance and supporting their professional development. Staff assess children's development accurately to identify clear next steps and to identify and close any gaps in learning. Children are progressing well and they are acquiring important skills to support their future learning and readiness for school. Relationships between staff and parents are strong. Staff regularly engage with parents to share information about their children. Parents advise that they have developed positive relationships with their child's key person and feel fully included in their children's learning. Children are happy, confident and well settled in the environment, and build strong relationships with the caring staff team and other children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, some children do not become fully involved during group activities. Staff miss opportunities to extend children's understanding about individual differences in society.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

review how group activities are planned and organised, to ensure that all children are fully involved and engaged increase opportunities for children to learn about their own and others' cultures and backgrounds, to extend further their sense of belonging.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interaction between staff and children as they engaged in activities together. The inspector spoke to staff and children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day. The inspector and manager carried out a joint observation, and discussed staff practice. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including staff suitability records, children's profiles and the playgroup's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are well deployed throughout the setting to ensure that children receive high levels of supervision. Staff have a clear understanding about child protection issues. They are aware of the procedures to follow if they have concerns about a child's welfare. Robust recruitment and induction processes ensure that staff are suitable for their roles. Since taking up her role, the manager has implemented changes to improve the quality of the provision. For example, she has improved the security in the outdoor play area, reorganised snack time to encourage children's independence and increased parents' involvement in their children's learning. She monitors the educational programmes and staff practice closely, ensuring any areas for improvement in children's progress or staff practice are identified and acted upon.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of staff's teaching is mostly effective and children are well supported to make progress in all areas of learning. Staff observe and make assessments of children's learning regularly. They use the information to plan an interesting range of experiences aimed at children's individual needs and interests. Children engage in creative play, such as manipulating play dough, painting, dressing up and role-play experiences. They develop their understanding of the world, for example, as they learn about planting and living things. Children enjoy looking at books and listening to staff read, and choose from a range of materials to practise their early writing skills. Staff support all children well to develop good communication and language skills, including through modelling language and encouraging children to develop their vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff provide a safe, stimulating and well-resourced learning environment where children play, learn and explore a wide range of resources. Children are happy and eager to attend. They benefit from the positive and secure relationships that they have established with staff and they are well behaved. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy healthy snacks and take part in a range of activities, including outside play, to develop their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who are in receipt of funded education and those who speak English as an additional language, make good developmental progress in relation to their starting points. They learn to communicate their needs effectively and develop confidence in their own abilities, which helps prepare them well for their future learning. They share, take turns and they attend to their own personal care needs. They engage in meaningful conversations with staff.
