This provision is good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment with plenty of toys and resources for children to choose freely and which develop their imagination. Children develop their independence skills well and are confident learners. Good partnerships with parents and others help the childminder to know children's individual needs and starting points, and to identify when they need extra help and support. Children receive the necessary support and any gaps in their learning close. The childminder's teaching is consistently good, and she monitors their progress through careful observations. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points, and develop the skills they need to help prepare them for school. The childminder reflects on her practice to make improvements. She seeks the views of parents and children to develop her practice and improve outcomes for children. Children enjoy a range of activities in the childminder's home and in the local

community, including toddler groups, the parks and the library.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's understanding of how to be increasingly responsible for their own safety during outings. Although the childminder promotes healthy eating and lifestyles, she has not found a way to encourage children to eat a wider range of healthy foods.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play activities in the childminder's home. The inspector viewed a range of documents, including the childminder's policies and procedures, and children's records. The inspector considered the written views of parents. The inspector spoke with the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector discussed the childminder's evaluation document with her.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses self-evaluation to review and check her practice. She seeks the views of parents and takes account of children's interests when planning activities. The childminder keeps up to date with developments in the early years, for example through attending training to further develop her knowledge. She provides a good range of interesting activities that ensure children make good progress over time. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child. She carries out regular risk assessments to ensure children's safety. The childminder promotes equality and diversity very effectively through her work and sets a positive example to the children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her training, knowledge and understanding of how children learn by providing a variety of experiences to support their learning and development. She uses children's interests very well to extend and develop their learning; for example, the natural environment when children show a keen interest in wildlife, such as bees and butterflies in the garden. The childminder provides a wide range of resources to stimulate children's interests and encourages them to use their imagination through their play. She skilfully steps back to allow them to take charge, and knows when to intervene to offer help or support. The childminder knows each child well and focuses on developing their individual needs identified through her monitoring of their progress.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form secure attachments to childminder and relationships are strong. This helps them to gain confidence around new situations and unfamiliar people. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to build self-assurance through exploring a variety of resources, and by developing independence and acquiring self-help skills. Children behave well because they understand the house rules. Children learn to manage their own personal needs appropriately. They learn to respect children who speak a different language from their own. Regular exercise is provided in the garden and also on visits to the local parks to support their physical development and general well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Outcomes for children are good. They are settled and secure in the caring surroundings. They learn to be independent and make good progress in their communication and physical skills through the good support received from the childminder. Children clearly enjoy the time spent with the childminder. They are prepared well for the next steps in their learning.
