This provision is good
The childminder offers children a welcoming and inclusive environment. She is a caring role model, who knows the children well. Children have warm bonds with her. The childminder is confident in her understanding of children's starting points. She uses her focused observations and assessments to plan for children's next steps in learning. Children are making good progress overall. Children are happy and show they feel safe and emotionally secure. They behave very well and understand the expectations of the day. The childminder is proactive in promoting children's developing language and, in particular, she values their home languages well. The childminder uses her risk assessments, policies and procedures to support children's health, safety and well-being effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not always confident to extend children's confidence and imaginations further, for example as they interact during role-play activities. Children are not encouraged consistently to use mathematical language in order, to develop their awareness of size and positioning, for example.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing indoors and during their interactions with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she plans for children's learning and how she works in partnership with parents. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and children's records. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she has updated her skills. The inspector spoke with the childminder about how she reviews her practice and the quality of children's learning.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities. She updates her skills regularly, including through research and training, for example through professional organisations and her local authority. She states that a course to promote her understanding of children's language, for example, was very useful in developing her knowledge of how to support bilingual children. The childminder is proactive in ensuring she is up to date with new legislation. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection matters and of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder evaluates her practice well, and values the views of parents to help identify and target areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good teaching skills, interacting and playing with children well overall. She plans effectively in relation to children's interests. For example, she provided food items, such as celery for trees and potatoes for rocks, alongside moulding dough, to show children how to make an environment for their toy dinosaurs. The childminder makes focused observations and assessments of children's achievements. She reviews their progress on a regular basis and shares their planned next steps and 'wow' moments with parents. Her partnerships with parents are well established and, for example, she offers them ideas about how to promote learning at home. Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes equality and diversity well. She encourages children to use good manners; for example, babies and children use polite language as they speak with her. Children learn about safety. For instance, they count shells as they put them back into a container, and listen well as the childminder explains one has broken and may be sharp so will need removing from the box. Children have regular opportunities for outdoor learning, gaining fresh air and developing their physical skills. The childminder takes them on visits, for example to local groups where they meet other children and develop their social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy. Babies have plenty of space to explore their environment. They feel safe as they develop their physical skills, for example learning to walk. Children explore with musical instruments and listen to the different sounds that these make. Children join in with rhymes and action songs. They are confident to use their home languages or English. Babies enjoy 'peek-a-boo' games and laugh contentedly as they interact with the childminder. Children are well prepared for the next stages of their learning.
