This provision is good

She encourages children to have a high level of involvement during activities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always encourage parents to share information about their children's learning at home, to promote further continuous learning.  The childminder does not always pursue links with other professionals involved in children's learning, to get a clearer understanding of children's specific needs.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen processes for sharing information with parents, in particular to support children's learning at home  explore opportunities to build links with all professionals that are involved in children's learning, to promote further children's specific needs and interests.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children.  The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding, accidents and administering medication.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the day to assess her knowledge of meeting the requirements.  The inspector viewed the rooms used by children to ensure they are suitable and safe.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of what to do if she is concerned about a child. She has effective policies and procedures in place to safeguard the children in her care. The childminder reflects on her own practice and seeks opportunities for further training, to support her within her role. The childminder effectively teaches children to value and respect differences, such as those between themselves and others. She generally communicates with most early years providers that children attend to promote continuity of learning and care. She monitors children's development and uses the information from her assessments to plan suitably challenging experiences to extend children's learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plays alongside children and carefully guides their play, while helping them to learn new skills. The childminder observes children during activities and assesses their development. She encourages younger children to become independent, for example, when dressing, to help prepare them for the next stages in their learning. The childminder consistently promotes children's communication and language skills well. She listens to what children have to say and responds appropriately, while extending their language and vocabulary.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder's home is secure, clean and welcoming. Children are happy and settled. There is a broad range of activities available, which children access confidently to extend their play. The childminder keeps the children safe and completes daily risk assessments. Children are kind and courteous to one another and the childminder promptly challenges any negative behaviour, using a calm and gentle approach. The childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's health and well-being. Children learn the importance of adopting a healthy diet and undertaking regular physical exercise. The childminder offers healthy snacks and drinks, and children enjoy many opportunities for outdoor play, such as through visits to the local parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children sustain their interests well during activities. They are keen to explore and learn new skills and make good progress from their starting points. They are obtaining the skills and attitudes to prepare them well for school.
