p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interactions with children.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about her safeguarding responsibilities and how she supports children's learning and development.  The inspector spoke to parents and took account of their views.  The inspector looked at a range of documents, including children's development records, and the childminder's policies and procedures.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is clear about the safeguarding procedures to follow should a concern about a child arise. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder communicates well overall with parents about children's routines, interests and learning, which helps parents to support learning at home. The childminder reflects on her practice well and keeps her knowledge and skills up to date by attending regular training. This has helped her to improve her environment and change the layout. She has reduced the amount of resources available at any one time and ensured that all resources are accessible and clearly identifiable. She labels them using pictures and words that support all children to make independent choices. As a result, children are more curious and enjoy exploring.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans well for future learning. Activities are stimulating and provide good challenge to target children's next steps. The childminder supports children well in developing their communication and language skills. For example, she repeats words and extends their language through lots of discussion during their play. Children enjoy exciting and interesting activities that encourage them to explore. The childminder supports children's curiosity well by asking questions that encourage them to think. This leads to children extending their play, for example, by adding characters during role play. Children enjoy listening to stories and develop good concentration. The childminder interacts positively, extending children's mathematical development, for example, while playing, she encouraged children to count the number of beads.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children are very happy and settled in the childminder's care. The childminder works extremely well with parents to identify and understand their children's needs and interests when they first start. The childminder enthusiastically praises children's efforts, promoting their self-esteem extremely well. She is exceptionally nurturing and supportive, meaning children develop a very strong and positive attitude to learning new things. The childminder is very skilled at ensuring children learn about safety. Children face new challenges very well. They take safe risks and are very confident in their choices.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are very emotionally secure and confident. They show a good sense of achievement and a positive attitude to learning. Children are confident communicators and make their needs known. They have a strong 'can do' attitude and enthusiastically engage in the good range of activities on offer. Children develop a very strong sense of self and their abilities, which prepares them very well for the next stage in their learning.
