This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a thorough knowledge of the needs and interests of children in her care. She provides a wide range of exciting, age- appropriate activities to help all children make good progress from their starting points.  Parents express good levels of satisfaction with the quality of their children's care and development. The childminder regularly shares information with parents about children's achievements and progress. This helps to promote continuity of care and learning.  Children have developed very secure emotional bonds with the childminder. They are happy and feel safe in the welcoming environment. Behaviour is good.  Children enjoy a wealth of opportunities for outdoor play in the childminder's garden. They plant seeds and care for the growing plants; this includes vegetables, which they later taste. This helps to increase their understanding of the world and the importance

of leading healthy lifestyles.  Babies and young children are provided with plenty of enjoyable activities to encourage them to explore and investigate using all of their senses.  The childminder is committed to working in partnership with other settings and professionals to help meet children's learning and support needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder has completed recent training courses, she has yet to develop an ambitious plan to continually improve her professional knowledge, aimed at achieving the highest-quality provision.  Observations and assessments of children's learning are not always fully used to plan precise next steps in learning to help ensure the most rapid progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance professional development plans to help raise the overall quality of practice to an even higher level.  strengthen the use of observations and assessments to plan precise next steps to enable all children, in order to make the most rapid progress in their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of the adults living on the premises.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of a small sample of the views of parents.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to protect children from harm and who to contact should she have concerns about a child's welfare. She follows comprehensive policies and procedures to help keep children safe, both in her home and on any outings. These policies are reviewed annually to ensure they are relevant and up to date. They are shared with parents so they have a good understanding of the service the childminder provides. The childminder meets with other childminders to share good practice and completes some professional development courses, including mandatory training. She has successfully addressed all of the required improvements from the previous inspection.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The well-qualified childminder interacts very effectively with children. She offers a wide range of fun activities to motivate children to explore and learn. Children have plenty of opportunities to investigate and be active outdoors. The play opportunities provided stimulate the children's senses and motivate them to learn. Babies delightedly look at their reflections in a safety mirror displayed outside and smile as they try on hats and sunglasses with the childminder's help. Very young children squeal with excitement at what they see and feel as they are carried through colourful sheets of netting hung from a washing line in the garden. The childminder supports the development of children's communication and language skills well. Babies listen attentively to the noises made as they shake and bang musical instruments. They happily babble and move to the sound of the many songs introduced by the childminder. The childminder models how to count and

uses numbers during children's play, helping to promote the development of their early mathematical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder makes the most of daily conversations and diaries to keep parents informed about their child's care and development at the setting. She gathers information from parents about their child's routines and likes and dislikes from the start. Children quickly settle happily at the childminder's home. The childminder is attentive to their needs and offers frequent cuddles and reassurance. She is a positive role model for children. The childminder offers frequent praise and encouragement, which helps children to develop their confidence and self-esteem. The snacks and meals provided are nutritious and well balanced. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise daily. They are developing an understanding of healthy lifestyles. The childminder encourages children's curiosity about their environment and the wider community. For example, she takes children on regular visits to beaches, local parks and places of interest.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. All children are making good progress from their starting points. They enjoy playing and learning and are developing key skills in readiness for the eventual move on to nursery and school. Children attend local groups, where they learn to socialise with other children and their carers.
