This provision is good
The self-evaluation of the provision includes the management committee, staff, parents and children. This ensures that improvements to benefit the children are effectively identified and implemented. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as school. Children develop strong emotional attachments with their key persons. Key persons welcome children into the provision, helping them settle quickly and be ready to learn. All key persons know the children well and demonstrate real warmth and patience with them. The manager and her staff develop good partnerships with the parents, other professionals and providers. These include regular exchanging of information between all parties. Furthermore, parents are encouraged to be fully involved in their child's continued learning at home. Robust risk assessments are conducted each morning before the children arrive so that they are kept safe and well. These include all indoor and outdoor areas and any outings
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff do not always provide enough opportunities for children to build a good awareness of how they are different from or similar to other people. Staff do not always consider factors, such as background noise, that may not help to fully promote children's listening and attention skills as they become engrossed in their activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager. The inspector held a meeting with the manager. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the pre-school's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school. The inspector spoke to a selection of the staff during the inspection. The inspector spoke to the children and a selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The manager has attended safer recruitment training. This enables her to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children. Furthermore, all staff keep their child protection training updated so that they know what to do and who to contact should there be a concern about a child. The manager is well qualified and experienced. She provides good support and coaching for all staff, including observing their teaching practice. Furthermore, staff have time to talk about their training needs, their key children and anything that may concern them. Since the last inspection, the manager and her staff have attended a broad range of training on how to effectively support children's learning and development. They reflect on their training to ensure children's needs are identified and met at all times. The manager closely monitors the educational programmes. Consequently, teaching has a positive impact on

children's learning and developmental progression.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff gather information from parents about children's previous learning, interests and learning styles. This helps identify precise starting points for each child and form clear next steps in their learning. The staff take children on regular outings to the local community gardens. They dig, plant and grow flowers and vegetables. Older children learn about numbers and calculation as they practise throwing beanbags at targets. They become excited as they write down their scores next to their names. During role play, older children try on different school uniforms in the school role play area. This helps them become familiar with the types of routine they will encounter at school. Younger children investigate the outdoor sand tray. They fill and empty containers using a range of tools.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and diet. They talk about healthy foods and enjoy their 'healthy heart' walks, where they learn about the benefits of physical activity on their body. All children practise their physical skills as they ride around on trikes and use the climbing and balancing equipment with a 'can do' attitude. Children are encouraged to take manageable risks in their play as they use a range of equipment outdoors under the close supervision of staff. During activities, staff use a range of questioning techniques, praise and encouragement to foster children's confidence across the areas of learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make choices about where and what they want to play with. They move freely between the indoor and outdoor areas as they wish. All children, including those in receipt of funding, make good progress in their learning and development.
