Children are settled, relaxed and engage in a variety of activities. The childminder understands how young children develop and encourages their natural curiosity to learn. She provides a range of experiences that meets their individual learning needs. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills. She models language clearly, introduces new words and reinforces children's emerging language development. Children enjoy time outdoors in the fresh air each day. They walk to and from school and visit local parks and places of interest. Children enjoy being physically active within the garden. Children remain safe. The childminder identifies and minimises potential risks within her home and garden. She is fully aware of protecting children from abuse and neglect.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed an activity and discussed teaching methods with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults within the home. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of her role in safeguarding children and the procedures to follow if concerned about a child in her care. Children play in a safe, secure and well-maintained environment and develop an understanding of their own safety. The childminder evaluates her own practice and seeks the views of the parents about the service they receive. Since her last inspection, the childminder has completed paediatric first-aid training and maintained her knowledge of safeguarding.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how children learn and develop. She spends time with parents each day sharing what their child has been involved in and their achievements. Parents in turn share their child's developing interests and achievements at home. Children's communication and language skills continually develop. The childminder chatters to the children using lots of repetition and simple language to support their emerging language. Children become aware of how technology works. They enjoy pressing buttons and turn knobs on toys to hear sounds and make lights flash. Children develop an awareness of the birds that come into the garden. They learn about the foods the birds like to eat and help to feed them each day.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to feel safe, secure and settled in her care. Time is spent getting to know them and their parents. Information gathered from parents is used to provide care that meets their child's individual care and learning needs. Children's good health and well-being is promoted well. They enjoy healthy snacks during the day and drinks are freely available. Children enjoy being physically active each day. They enjoy walks in the local community. They become aware of their own safety when out and follow consistent routines when crossing roads. The childminder supports children's confidence and self-esteem. She celebrates their achievements and praises their good behaviour.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress given their starting points. The childminder monitors children's progress to ensure that identified gaps in learning are closed. Children develop confidence and the skills they need to start nursery or school. Children's enjoyment of books is nurtured. They spend time alone or with the childminder looking at them and talking about what they can see. Children persist with activities that encourage their hand- to-eye coordination and their small muscle skills. One example of this is picking up different-sized objects and placing them into different pots and containers.
