This provision is good
The childminder effectively converses with children throughout the day. For example, she models good language and uses a range of expressions, particularly to support children learning to speak English as an additional language. The childminder constantly tries to improve and develop her practice. For example, she makes plans to attend training, such as about the progress check for children aged two years, to increase her understanding of assessments. The childminder provides a range of experiences across all areas of learning. Children engage well in their learning and make good progress. The childminder offers warmth and care to the children. Children grow in their self- confidence and feel at home at her setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use all opportunities to involve parents further in the assessment of their children, especially when children start, to strengthen their learning experiences even further. The childminder misses opportunities to extend children's exploration of different materials to enhance their creativity and interest in the world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching and the impact it had on children's learning and development. The inspector talked to the childminder to assess her understanding of the statutory requirements, including how she meets individual learning and care needs. The inspector reviewed the childminder's policies, training certificates and other relevant documentation. The inspector looked at children's records and observations of their learning. The inspector observed children's routine tasks, including mealtimes and when tidying away resources.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder maintains a well-organised provision. She attends closely to the needs of the children in her care and generally communicates well with parents. She works closely with the local authority to identify suitable training. She also identifies areas of her practice that she would like to improve, such as involving children more in preparing meals, to increase their awareness of healthy practices. The childminder observes what children enjoy doing. She closely monitors their progress and uses this information to plan their next steps in learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of child protection up to date. She knows how to report any welfare concerns to keep children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children very well. She generally talks to parents about the children's care routines, including their children's likes and dislikes. She uses this information well, such as to establish children's eating and sleeping patterns, so they are comfortable in her care. The childminder provides challenging activities for the older children, such as putting smaller items into containers to strengthen their hand-to-eye coordination. The childminder models good language to support children to understand mathematical vocabulary and enhance their literacy skills. For example, she reads stories using expression to capture children's attention, so they learn to enjoy books. Children enjoy different learning experiences and gain good social skills for their move on to school. For example, the childminder takes children to the local parent and toddler groups and adventure play area, to extend their awareness of the diverse community in which they
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder establishes a warm and homely atmosphere. She is attentive to the children's needs and offers cuddles throughout the day. Parents comment positively about her caring approach. Children play and explore well, and confidently express themselves. The childminder helps children to develop good behavioural habits, in preparation for school, and she makes her expectations clear. For example, she gently reminds children to share toys and is good role model.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to be independent; for example, they choose their own resources and feed themselves at mealtimes. Children are able to use different tools well, including writing materials. They develop a good grasp of the English language in readiness for school.
