This provision is good

 Children are making good progress in their learning and development. They are excited and motivated to learn. They experience a wide range of stimulating activities which are carefully planned by the childminder.  Children are confident and have high levels of self-esteem. They have created strong attachments with the childminder who understands their individual routines and supports their emotional development well.  The childminder uses her qualification well and is a good teacher. She knows how children learn and develop. She allows children time to learn at their own pace and skilfully builds on their knowledge with new experiences.  The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and provision. She has a good attitude to change and has clear priorities for improvement.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Opportunities are not always fully explored to raise the childminder's quality of teaching from good to outstanding.  Information gathered from parents on entry about their child's capabilities is not always in-depth.

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of how to recognise and report any concerns regarding children's well-being. She has kept up to date with changes in legislation, and understands her role and responsibilities to protect children from harm. The childminder has created a safe and secure environment and constantly risk assesses her home for any dangers which are quickly minimised. The childminder is well qualified and has a good attitude to continually improving. However, she has not fully explored ways to raise her quality of teaching from good to outstanding. The childminder has created a network of childminders with whom she shares ideas and resources. They work together to provide children with new experiences, such as inviting visitors with exotic animals to support children to learn about animals and the world around them.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effortlessly extends children's learning. She uses books to teach new vocabulary and repeats words to enable children to practise their speech. Children's interest in books is linked well to pretend play as the childminder discusses different animals and their need for love and water. Children discuss the animals with the childminder who then extends their interest to painting a garden for the animals. The childminder gathers information regarding children's well-being on entry, but less so about their learning and development. She plans for children's interests once she gets to know them and regularly monitors their progress, planning clear next steps in learning. Children's learning and progress is shared with parents regularly along with purposeful photographs of children taking part in activities. Children have a wide choice of activities and resources to complement their learning. All children are making good progress from

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are exceptionally well settled and confident in the childminder's care. She liaises with parents daily regarding children's routines and their well-being, in order to make any necessary changes. The childminder constantly teaches children about healthy practices and how to take care of their bodies. She promotes healthy eating and provides nutritious meals and snacks. Children have regular access to the outdoors and visit the local parks regularly, taking resources to promote exercise. Children's behaviour is exceptional. The childminder gives high priority to teaching children to be respectful and tolerant of others. She teaches children the behaviour expected of them in different situations and supports their social skills.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are developing the skills required to be successful learners in the future. They thoroughly enjoy exploring and have good concentration spans. Children listen well and are articulate communicators. They are cooperative, take turns and are independent learners.
