This provision is outstanding

 The childminder has an excellent understanding of how children learn. She meticulously plans exciting activities and experiences that promote children's development and supports them to make the best possible progress.  The childminder uses highly effective systems to check children's achievements against the range of development typical for their age. This helps her to identify any areas where children may need more support and those who are most able. She then tailors her teaching to provide an excellent level of challenge for individual children.  Parents are actively involved in their children's care and learning and there are highly effective arrangements in place for sharing information. This helps to promote children's rapid progress and an exceptional continuity of care.  The childminder forms extremely warm and caring relationships with the children. This helps to promote their emotional well-being very effectively and they feel very safe and

secure in her care.  Children have a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoy their learning. The childminder incorporates children's interests into her planning and skilfully adapts activities as they develop their own ideas during play. This contributes to the enthusiasm children demonstrate and they become absorbed in their learning.  The childminder consistently implements her very robust procedures to promote children's welfare. They learn to keep themselves safe and develop an understanding of the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.  The childminder seeks feedback from all those involved in children's care and learning. She uses her findings to evaluate all areas of her practice and to identify priorities for further development. This contributes to her excellent capacity to build on the already outstanding levels of care and education that she provides.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children's safety and well-being are central to the childminder's practice and she has a very secure knowledge of how to protect them from harm. The childminder is well qualified and seeks out opportunities to continuously build on her expert knowledge and skills. She is considering how to consistently build on the already outstanding quality of teaching and the exciting and well-targeted educational programmes. The childminder has established highly effective partnerships with other settings that children attend. There are regular and efficient arrangements in place to share information about children's learning and development. These help to support children to make the best possible progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder regularly makes very accurate observations and assessments of children's learning that contribute to her remarkable knowledge of their individual development. She skilfully provides activities for mixed age groups that offer different levels of challenge. For example, during a story about a caterpillar, younger children use simple puppets and identify and name single objects. Older children are challenged further to count out the pieces of fruit that the caterpillar will eat. This helps to engage children effectively and support their individual learning needs extremely well. The childminder provides exciting activities that inspire children and ignite their curiosity. They observe caterpillars and make observational drawings as they grow into butterflies. Children delight in setting them free in the garden and use their imaginations to consider what kind of home the butterflies will

build. This helps children to develop an excellent understanding of the world.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children receive an abundance of praise and the childminder celebrates every achievement with them. This helps them to feel valued and special and contributes to the very high levels of self-esteem and confidence they demonstrate. The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour. She uses highly effective methods to teach them about taking turns and sharing. They show remarkable concern for the needs and feelings of others from a very young age and their behaviour is exemplary. The childminder consistently supports children to take responsibility for simple tasks, such as caring for their belongings and clearing away activities. Children demonstrate strong independence skills as they carry out many tasks without prompts or support. This contributes to children's excellent self-care skills and helps to prepare them for school.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children make excellent progress and some exceed the typical range of development for their age. Children develop an extremely positive attitude towards learning. They eagerly develop their own ideas and solve problems as they play. Children rapidly develop key skills in mathematics and literacy. They recognise familiar letters in the environment and begin to write their names. They solve simple number problems, for example, as they count and compare the number of legs on bugs they have created with dough. This helps them to be exceptionally well prepared for later learning in school.
