Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, children's learning and development records, and a sample of the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection, and took account of the written testimonials of parents. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other household members, and the childminder's qualifications.

range of opportunities in a safe environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder shows a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She fully understands each child's stage of development and their next steps in learning. The childminder promotes younger children's language skills well. She talks to the children as they play, describes what they are doing and asks questions. She repeats simple language to reinforce vocabulary for the youngest children and responds to their attempts to communicate. The childminder gives children time to explore their ideas, such as when they attempt to stack different-sized cups. She carefully observes them and then joins in appropriately to show them what to do. Children copy what the childminder has shown them and learn new skills to move them on in their development. They are given opportunities to repeat what they have learnt to embed their new skills.

The childminder encourages children to tidy away toys and helps them to gain a sense of responsibility for their environment.
