The inspector observed children's play and learning during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, the childminder's key policies and procedures, and the system of self- evaluation. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings. The inspector took account of children's and parents' views, such as through written feedback, including comments, letters and questionnaires.

For example, she has particularly benefited from training, which has helped to focus her reflective skills, so she can continue to improve. The childminder is highly motivated to learn more. She supports her assistants fully and encourages them to develop further in their professional skills. The childminder has rigorous and highly effective processes in place to monitor children's development. She provides an excellent range of experiences for children to develop their early reading skills, such as when reading post from the 'fairy', although opportunities to enhance children's awareness of books, such as during story time, are still developing. Children show extremely good listening skills. They benefit from the excellent range of resources and maintain their attention for long periods. They are fully engrossed in play and embrace learning. The childminder focuses sharply on developing children's communication and language skills, and provides lots of new language for children to hear. Children are very confident at using a range of descriptive language, including mathematical terms, and talk about their home lives.

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder is extremely good at encouraging children to be confident in their physical development. She provides every opportunity for children to exercise, such as walking to the setting, and she challenges them to develop new skills. Children take safe risks in their play, such as when using scissors or tweezers, and build an awareness of their own safety. She encourages children to eat healthily and they gain a secure understanding of how to take care of their own needs. The childminder has exceptionally strong skills in encouraging positive behaviours and helping children to cooperate with others. Children use high levels of self-control, are well mannered and understand rules.
