Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector conducted a tour of the parts of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector observed a planned activity and jointly evaluated this with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as, a sample of policies, children's records and evidence of the suitability of the adults living on the premises. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents gathered from written feedback.

She implements a range of policies and procedures to contribute to the smooth running of her provision. She has a good understanding of the potential signs of abuse and the procedures for reporting concerns about a child's safety or welfare. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly reflects on the quality of her provision and sets high expectations for future developments. She asks them open-ended questions and encourages them to recall past events, for example, a recent holiday they have been on. Children have many opportunities to develop physical skills. They learn to ride balance bikes and the childminder places cones for children to manoeuvre around to challenge them further. Older children play with numbered pebbles and match them up with numerals around the room. Toddlers engage in sensory play as they make marks in sand.
p.3

p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers flexible settling-in periods and gathers detailed information to get to know children when they first start. She provides two well-resourced playrooms, set out to meet the needs of different age groups. Children independently access their own resources to extend their play ideas further. The childminder praises children's achievements and they show pride at their successes. This helps to raise their self-esteem. Children are provided with many opportunities to develop an understanding of the world around them. They engage in activities to explore a range of festivals and are taken on a variety of outings, such as to sample a Chinese meal. Children are encouraged to develop independence and self-care skills. Toddlers confidently feed themselves and older children put their own coats and shoes on for outdoor play. The childminder takes the children to a number of local groups where they have the opportunity to develop good social skills.
p.3
